My brother was our officiant. To thank him I gave him a copy of our wedding video and picture my husband and I took with him. He really was surprised and appreciated it. I think a nice gift could be a book of poems or sayings that she can use as inspiration for future weddings, a nice handmade thank you card, along with a picture that includes her and maybe a copy of your video.

Are you having a rehearsal dinner? Include the officiant and his/her spouse. Nothing is required, but etiquette says always be thoughtful. And you should certainly send the officiant a personal thank-you note. The fee you paid covers the church's expenses from sexton to electricty. A very thoughtful thing you can do is send a check to the church. Make it out "St. Johns Church" and in the For line put "in honor of Mr. Joe the Pastor" in whatever amount is appropriate for you to be donating [like if you're having a $20K wedding you give more that if you're having a $2k wedding]. Poor people typically give $25 to the causes they care about. If you're having a $2000 wedding, send the church $25 in honor of the officiant who marries you. If you've got $5000 for a one-day dress, let your conscience be your guide.

RE:
what would be a good gift for a wedding officiant?
The lady doing my wedding in March has gone above and beyond the call of duty in helping me plan the wedding, what would be a good gift for her?

It is customary to give a monetary gift to the officiant or religious clergy performing your ceremony. If you are speaking of a wedding planner, giving her a monetary gift is helpful...but if she is a modest person and would feel somewhat embarassed by the money...make a donation in her name to a charity that is close to her heart.

Maybe a book? Find out what she is interested in (if she is a minister, then perhaps a religious book) and write a thank you note in the cover. Include a picture of you and your husband or a photo of the 2 of you with her also, and frame it nicely!

maybe something equivalent to what you are giving your bridesmaids? or a very special thank you card with a picture of the two of you or even the 3 of you that you can send after the wedding.
