Matthews 12:30-32 says that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is unforgivable. Some say that it means that if you die and still don't listen to the Holy Spirit to repent and accept Jesus you won't be forgiven. But according to the verse and the context of what it is in, is it really saying that? I want some people's input on this to make it clear for me!

Knowing the truth about who Jesus is (God) and rejecting Him.

I reject the view that this means attributing the works of God to Satan, because that can be done in ignorance (and usually is). In the pharisees' case, the blasphemy was deliberate: They knew He was God and they denied Him as God. Their act of attributing His miracles to Satan were simply exemplory of that heart action.

Mark also makes reference to this in Mark 3:20-30. Verses 20-30 give you the full context, but it can be summed up in verse 29 and 30. Jesus says(29 But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin." 30 He said this because they were saying "He has an evil spirit"). Therefore proclaiming that the Holy Spirit is an evil spirit, is blaspheming the Holy Spirit according to the book of Mark

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is unforgivable but God will judge that, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit would actually be fighting against it or contributing the acts of the Holy Spirit to Satan such as the Pharisees did when Jesus was performing miracles and the Pharisees said he did it by means of Beelzebub or Satan even though they knew Jesus was from God.

I think the point they are trying to make is that unless you want forgiveness you cant be forgiven ...

That verse isn't about death as much as its about not speaking blasphemy or defamation against God. In this case it is saying that to desecrate the Holy Spirit is a sin that cannot be forgiven. But to sin against the Holy Spirit is to ignore the message completely or be a messenger of Satan.

This passage always puzzles me because it feels so final and absolute and well..closed minded..

but thats just my opinion

It says very specifically "If you blaspheme against the holy spirit, you will NEVER be forgiven".

It involves actual blasphemy: declaring that you deny the power and existence of the holy spirit.

According to my girlfriend's priest, "blasphemy against the Holy Spirit" means rejecting Jesus, which explains it as being the only unforgiveable sin.

If you read that entire section of scripture you will see that Jesus tells the pharisees about this after they said His miracles were done because He was of demons. I feel that blaspheming the Holy Spirit is attributing the miracles of God to false spirits and denying God the glory.

Many say it is rejecting the Holy Spirits convicting power that would lead one to Christ, hence rejecting Jesus. I disagree with this though because the scripture section you are referring to says nothing of this.

to "blaspheme against the Holy Spirit" is done in the heart of a man. if in the heart a man blaspheme against the Holy Spirit then in the heart you will be condemned. it is all about the status of the heart.

You are right
Bible says:
"But what I am saying is true: my going is for your good: for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
And he, when he comes, will make the world conscious of sin, and of righteousness, and of being judged:
Of sin, because they have not faith in me;" Joh 16:7-9

So, as the Holy Spirit is rebuking us for our sins hence if we blasphemy its action it means we'll not repent on our sins & also will deny our faith in Jesus and in his words in turn.
