When you apply for college, do they look at your grades from every marking period and midterms/finals throughout highschool, or do they look at your cumulative gpa? And does that gpa include the final grades at the end of each year, or each individual grade throughout the year?

I'm not sure to be honest.. I know in the past i've told a few porkies about GCSE grades so I could get onto some college courses. Thank goodness it paid off because I acheived a Diploma!

You will also find that money helps..especially if you are the one paying for the course!

* For those that do not already know, it is also the college's duty to pass students in their chosen subjects (mainly NVQs), regardless of whether they are competent or not. This is because of figures and funding - if they do not have a good pass rate, the college gets no funding from government!
During my time at college over the years, I have seen this time again with students who put in less work than others. Personally, I think its a shame that people are being awarded certificates when they do not deserve them.

So back to the question..it's mainly about money and less about qualifications..

They only see the final grade for the class [nothing else] and the GPA includes the final grades at the end of the year.

Well GPA but also your test scores for your ACT or SAT (or which ever test you took) Often times they have a minimum score for those tests that they will accept. I believe the end of year scores include everything, but in your senior year of high school they often times will be looking at your application before you have completed that last semester.

Extracurricular activities and awards etc usually come more into play when you are applying for a scholarship.

Colleges only look at grades 9-12, which is why most people describe high school as a clean slate. That said, the study habits you develop in middle school will impact the kinds of grades you receive in high school. Start forming good habits early on; you'll thank yourself later.

More competitive college will look at all your grades, your activities and community service as well as other factors that they use as part of their formula for admissions.

Grades, GPA, grade trends( if you did well in your freshman year, and did bad in your senior year, its not good)
