Do you pay for INCOMING calls?
Why do we have to cover the investment/operating costs of the cell phone companies in this country (USA)?
If I open a restaurant, or want to sell flowers, or whatever, I have to pay all my expenses. Right?
Why should we allow the phone companies to charge TWICE for the same call?!
I know the REASONS (cell vs land-lines; it is more expensive to provide service over cell vs land-lines). My point is that I DON'T CARE about the expenses that the company has. That is THEIR problem, isn't it?!
If there are problems in the Middle-east, the price of oil goes up. If there is a problem with some fruit, the cost goes up. I KNOW about that. What I am talking about is charging a call at BOTH ENDS (WHEN it is a cell call--I am NOT talking about land-lines).
Could any company say, "We are going to charge you for the orange juice that you ordered AS WELL AS the orange juice that you drank, because our expenses are so great?"
Educated answers are hoped for (WHO controls this?)

Jennifer,
You don't understand how to do business. That is a shame.
You CAN'T charge whatever you want. People get wise and either (1) stop going to your establishment (if it is a restaurant) or (2) make new laws to stop you (monopoly, tariffs, penalties--have you ever heard of these things?!)
Did you know that there is such a thing as "Ethics"? Ever heard of Business Ethics class? They have it at most universities. Also, you can sue for "unfair" business practices.
The day for this is coming for the American cell phone companies. Trust me on that one.
In the meantime, I think that you should really enroll in an Ethics or Business Ethics class and learn that business is NOT A FREE FOR ALL to make as much as possible at the unfair expense of the customers. You have a really SCARY and TWISTED sense of what capitalism and the free market is. My guess is that you learned it from some "jock" teacher without any scruples at all. Think about what you are saying!

"Do you pay for INCOMING calls?"

- Yes I pay for incoming calls (unless it's my hubby).

"If I open a restaurant, or want to sell flowers, or whatever, I have to pay all my expenses. Right?"

- Yes you'd have to pay for all your own expenses. But, you can also charge $7.99 for a hamburger that cost you $2.00 to make. See my point? It's their business, they can charge what they like. If we want their service, we pay their price. Not everyone has the same cell phone provider (thank goodness lol) and all companies have to make their money one way or another.
