Is it true that if you become a nurse your school expenses are paid for by your employer when you get a job? If so, can you attend ANY university for this to apply? even an expensive private college?

Yes, hospitals do offer funding to their employees in a tuition reimbursement program. At the moment, there are scholarship programs for nursing students with some from well known companies. Also, some hospitals do offer a bonus for hired nurses who promise to work there for a certain length of time.

First, during your senior year, fill out the FAFSA form in January or February. It provides need based financial aid from the federal and state governments along with the college itself. It also taps the work study program at the colleges. The FAFSA provides financial aid based on family income and financial resources. This is filled out yearly until graduation.

Second, the high school guidance office can provide a list of local scholarships to apply for consideration to current high school students in their junior and senior years.

Third, the college's financial aid office and website has a list of private scholarships offered from outside organizations and companies. Also, the college's or university's nursing website might list some scholarships.

Fourth, the public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even listed on the web.

Fifth, search for scholarships and grants for nursing in your state using Google.com and Yahoo.com. It sometimes works using the state government's website search engine.

Finally, I recommend joining several free membership scholarship search websites. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search based on information entered onto a form on the website.

Good luck!

No that is NOT true.

Private universities are total crap. Go to a community college and pay cash for the expense. Quit looking for handouts.

I don't know where you are located, but in south Florida there are a few hospitals that do offer that incentive. There are usually some string attached, such as you would have to stay with that facility for a few years. Why don't you consider a community college.
