I know this seems like a stupid question, but I have reason to be curious about this topic. In my school, practically every "attractive" person claims they have never been sick. (Most of them are about 16). I wouldn't be suspicious if it was only one or two people claiming this, but there are much more than that. I wonder if fate has granted them some immunity to disease just because they are "attractive." Also, I find it very hard to picture an "attractive" person getting sick. Keep in mind, this data is from my school alone. There could be something weird going on with the people enrolled.

Oh, yes, they get just as sick as anyone else, but they don't want you picturing their perfect faces puking or their tight butts having the runs. It's all vanity, nothing else! Plus they are probably in some absurd competition in a vain way to compete with others who have "never been sick", they dont' want to ruin that "perfect" image. Wait, soon you will be hearing how they stayed up all night to write a paper but aren't tired at all, etc. They probably are thin and well built as well but "never diet or exercise" because they are just naturally that way!

Haha, I understand where you're coming from :) And yes it is absolutely possible :) You don't always see attractive people (like celebrities) when they're sick but trust me, we ALL get sick.

It's funny how we tend to think beautiful = a good person or beautiful = healthy. Don't assume such things.

These attractive people at your school are lying through their teeth. They have a reputation for being perfect and pretty and hot all the time and saying they get sick ruins that. Pretty stupid if you ask me.

And I've never had this experience in high school or college. I think your classmates have some problems :)

This is an interesting idea! In animals, the ones that are chosen for mating often have some outward sign of their fitness - in other words, the ones that are disease resistant are perceived as being more attractive by others. I've never seen any studies on this in humans. It might make a good science fair project for someone!!

An example is the male peacock's big beautiful tail. It is thought that these evolved because female peahens liked to mate with males with the big colorful tails. But why would the females prefer this? It may be due to males with lower parasite loads have the physiologic resources to grow bigger prettier tails. Thus the females are thought to be looking for males with robust immune systems in order to pass that trait on to their offspring, so they look for the guys with the big pretty tails!

I'm too goodlooking to know.

That being said, there could very well be a correlation between attractiveness and getting sick.

Much of the features we find attractive, are attractive on a very basic level. Certain features imply strong likelihood of survival, strength and health.

People who are more fit generally have stronger immune systems and get sick less, or maybe not as severely, or maybe just get over it quicker.

Everyone on earth can get sick. Every single kid in your school has been sick. Anyone who says otherwise has a faulty memory or is just plain lying. They may not have spent a week in bed, or had anything more serious than a head cold, but they've all been hit with something, and probably many times.

Sickness has nothing to do with attractiveness ! It's depends on your genetics structures. Some how immune system does, but resistency to sickness is not with attractive people. There is no definition for attractive people. There is for masculine faced people. It's not a stupid question-go to the discussion forum.Look Angelina Jolie and others though they are attractive even they get sickness.

Someone is pulling your leg! Young, middle aged, old; white, black, yellow; short, tall; beautiful, homely; males, females; all get sick at one time or another. And nobody likes to get sick! If being "attractive" was a sure-fire cure for staying well there would need to be more plastic surgeons to keep up with the demand for facial makeovers!

illness doe not choose unattractive over attractive people. If I would have to guess maybe because attractive people try to stay in shape and be healthy therefore do not get ill as often or have you taken an accurate pole? and who determines who is attractive and who is not you might think some guy is hot and your best friend thinks he is just average looking. but being attractive does not always have to do which a persons looks, it is how the present themselves and how confident they are, but then someone accept people for whom they are.

It is definitely possible. When they're saying "I've never been sick," that means they've never been sick that they can remember. I'm sure if you ask their parents, they'll tell you that they've been sick a number of times.

Everyone gets ill. It's a fact of life. Fate is not a universally-accepted idea, and bacteria does not discriminate based on appearance, mostly because they don't have eyes ;)

Attractive people can get sick. It may just be that the people who are being labeled as attractive are called such because of their self-confidence (or arrogance) and don't want to admit to being sick because it makes them look normal. "Attractive" is a matter of opinion and what is considered "good looking" in one culture may be frowned upon in another.

biology studies some years ago showed that apes who had higher status in their social groups experienced less stress and were generally healthier.

good looking people enjoy higher status in their social groups -- and may actually have less stress with the resulting better health.

beauty may also be a result of good genes -- which may also translate into better health.

This is not a one-for-one result, however. Lower stress lives are not always illness-free. And good genes do not always translate either.
