know a mormon?

Question

i just met a really cute guy and he is mormon. does anybody know much about mormons cuz i want to be able to strike up a good conversation with him. if you know one, are they nice?

any suggestions? what should i say? thanks for the answers i have gotten so far!

Most LDS (mormons) are good people (like myself). We refrain from drinking alcohol, smoking, and illegal drugs. We try to maintain a chaste lifestyle (no sex till marriage). And we believe in the importance of family. Most people will say large families, which these days isn't completely true. Most Mormon families are 6 or less, and several I know are 2 parents/2 kids.

I think if you'd like a good conversation try to discuss common interests. If you have a general interest in Mormonism pursue it on your own and not because you think a guy is cute. If you break up what then? I only say this because I know several instances where people are converted to the person instead of the religion and they end up leaving the religion because they stopped associating with the person that "converted" them.

If he is near 19 ask him if he has decided to go on a mission? If he says yes, ask him why, and where he'd like to go (not like it matters but one can dream). If he says no, ask why again? you may find out some interesting things about his personal beliefs.

My son-in-law is a Mormon. He's a wonderful man. Yet he has pulled back from the church some. They are a close knit group of people that are very involved in each others lives. There are several movies you can rent that tell you the story of the religion. You should know they don't drink caffeine,do drugs and most young men go on a "mission" for two years to spread the word. The goals is to convert as many as possible to being Mormons. They generally have and want large families.

Most mormons who live their religion are very nice and accepting of others. Unfortunately there are alot of people out there that will tell you falsehoods about the mormons because they don't understand. It's kind of like a Ford Dealer telling you about a Chevy.

Just be yourself with the guy. A couple points to know: He probably has high morals, doesn't drink or smoke, and an all around fun guy. Being mormon doesn't make a person weird.

I wouldn't worry so much about his religion...just be genuine. Just because someone is Mormon doesn't mean they don't have any other interests. I'm Mormon and my wife is agnostic and we have tons in common, like music, food, style, socializing, etc. I'm sure it will come up with him later if you guys actually go out, so just let it come naturally. Mormons are generally very kind and respectful people and easy to get along with. Good luck.

Most of them are nice when you meet them. One of the things you have to have a look at is the US Census. The rates of bad things happening in the Mormon church is higher not by % but TIMES higher than the rest of the population:
-teenage pregnancy
-teenage suicide
-depression in married women
-suicide in married women
-etc.
Then you get the president of the church saying some interesting things:
-people like you don't deserve to be told the truth
-The God of the Bible is not the God of Mormonism.
Is that what you want to get involved with? The elders come to the door and tell me to look at the fruit of the church. This is some bitter fruit!

I know a non-fundamentalist (non-polygamist) Mormon. He's a nice guy, but he has the attention span of a hummingbird on crack. We don't talk about religion much.

Most are pretty square if that matters. Some are downright rebellious. I guess it depends on the guy.
