You need to be exited about it! Go on the internet and copy down words that you think are important. Then just find out how they are pronounced and what they mean. Spanish is different depending what country you are in. In Mexico, Spanish spoken there will not be the same as Spanish spoken in Spain. Spanish words are made into different words in different countries. Like "chongo"-said in Mexico is "mono"-in Spain. But, the correct, "pure" Spanish you should focus on is the Spain Spanish, after that, look at different culture's way of saying things. But I warn you, this will not be easy nor fast. I am trilingual. I speak Spanish, French & English (obviously). I learned fairly quickly, but I was super little & I didn't have homework or school.

PS: Also, find yourself a good Spanish Teacher.

Total submersion. Have a helicopter drop you off in the middle of Spain, alone, with 100 euros in your pocket. You'll be fluent by nightfall.

Kidding, kidding. Take a Spanish class (with a good teacher!) It really helps. And speak Spanish, even if you are only surrounded by English speakers (I recommend only doing this to family and close friends). Apply what you learn as soon as possible.

But seriously, too, I'm sure the first plan would be very effective ;)

In addition to classes, there are a lot of interactive websites. For example: learnspanish.com has a lot of free stuff you can try. Community ed is a good way to take classes cheaply. Another way is to volunteer in the Latin Am. communities in your neighborhoods. This way, you can meet people and learn from native speakers at the same time. I also read magazines, watch tv and listen to the radio to get used to hearing Spanish being spoken. It's a beautiful language -- go and enjoy it!

Dimelo is kind of an advanced song for somebody just starting out with Spanish. It's got a lot of complexly expressed ideas, I suggest you start with more basic songs, which songs you may ask? I don't know haha.
