I would choose a song from a musical because they have so much feeling in them and you can sing them your way without being critized and compared to a popular singer today. my favorites are
"I enjoy being a girl" - flower drum song
"I'm not that girl" and "popular" - wicked
"people will say we're in love" - Oklahoma
"Getting to know you" - the king and I
those are just a few to get you started. go to a local sheet music store and look around and the people in the store will also have good advice because they can hear your voice and get more input from you. good luck!

disney songs (or any musical- mamma mia is good)
somewhere over the rainbow
every breath you take -sting
yeah, there's millions of songs soooo i'm not gonna name them all. I suggest getting a book at your local music store that has only soprano/alto songs, that will surely help
