If it is a large breed I would never give puppy food because there is far too much protien for large breeds and they should be grown slowly. Rapid growth can cause skeletal problems.
I actually would not use puppy food for any breed of dog. Just get a good quality adult food and give it to your pup from the beginning.
You could also feed Canidae it is an all stage food.

One year old, but make the switch gradually. It could upset his/her stomach if you don't. Mix about 1/4 new dog food with 3/4 puppy food. Over the course of a week, increase the new dog food while decreasing the puppy food.

at 12 months a gradual change from puppy food to adult food should start to take place. dont just feed it pup food one day and adult the next, it will upset the dogs stomach. what u need to do is (say, for example ur dog eats 1 cup of food per day) make 3/4 cup of pup food and 1/4 cup of adult food and mix together.keep this up for 5-7 days, then add 1/2 pup food, 1/2 adult food in the 2nd week. in the 3rd week, add 3/4 adult food and 1/4 pup food. in the 4th week you should still add a teeny bit of puppy food (say 1/8 cup) with the adult food. this way you are 'weening' ur dog onto adult food without an upset tummy. hope i could help!! =)

Puppy food is too hot for many breeds of puppies and can cause structural problems. It is known to cause knuckling over in my breed. I feed it until 8-12 weeks, but I watch them closely.

I wouldn't keep a puppy on puppy food over 6 months of age. Your puppy does not need all the fat & extra protein that is found in puppy food. Alot of dogs get fat from eating puppy food too long and it is hard to get rid of the extra pounds later. This was my vet's advice.

I have a giant breed and we switch to a large breed ADULT formula at 10 weeks. Puppy food promotes rapid growth and that is NOT what you want with a large or giant breed.
I have NO IDEA what kind of puppy you are talking about.

ALL dogs, regardless of age, should be fed a raw, species appropriate diet.
Look up "prey model diet" on the web and learn all about it. Your dog will be healthier and happier in the long run.
Crap in a bag is not a good alternative for what Mother Nature meant for them to eat.
It is not nutritionally complete, and it is not nutritionally balanced.
If it was, they wouldn't be constantly coming out with "new" and "better" formulas.

Puppies can eat adult food but certain kinds for when they have baby teeth still but once they loose them you can switch from puppy food to adult food but little by little until they have all adult food. It's good for their teeth

You can switch to adult food at 12 months old. Make sure to gradually switch over so you don't upset the pets stomach.
