my boyfriend began marine bootcamp this past saturday and i have SOOO many questions about it. For one, well will he be out? He was told 6 weeks, then 10 then 12... and by the time he left we werent sure how long it really was going to be. Does he get to go on a leave after bootcamp or will he have to stay on base?

Am i allowed to send him things from home? will he actually get them? can i send him whatever he needs or is it limited?

what is the typical day like in bootcamp?

Boot camp is 13 weeks long. He'll get some leave after boot camp, but I'm not sure how much; I think it's 10 days.

You can send him letters. Don't send him cookies, soap, or anything like that. You can put pictures in with the letters; he'll love that. My folks sent me cash every once in a while so I could buy a news paper.

On a typical day in 1st phase you get up early; I'm not sure how early since I had no way to tell time. Then you go to chow, then PT, then class, then chow, then class, then chow, then you drill some more, clean, and go to sleep. Drill is mixed in pretty much all day.

First phase is when your letters will be the most helpful. It is very mentally, and emotionally exhausting. Write him often.

Semper Fi Ma'am...

Boot is just over 12 weeks, and he won't be the same boy when he comes out... he will be a man, nay a MARINE! Don't worry he'll still be yours, he'll just have a boat load more confidence.

Care packages are great to receive... Just make sure if you are sending baked goodies you send two boxes, one for him and his buddies, and one for the D.I. (Drill Instructor) Make sure you include enough for the entire platoon including staff and officers. You can get his name (The D.I.) from your beau.

Lots of letters from home are important, talk about the weather, his folks and their house... Stay away from the "I miss Yous"; once in awhile is OK, but support his decision to serve. What he is doing is invaluable, and honorable.

The attached web site is great for answering your questions about Marine Recruit Training, and life in the Corps.

Memorize the things on page one like the Marine Rifle Creed, and Marine rank insignia (very important) and surprise your beau when you see him.

Remember, the toughest job in the Marines, is a being a Marines loved one.

Semper Fi! Carry On!

He didn't ask many questions about this before going did he? Boot is 12 weeks long, unless he screws up and has to stay back. that can be for any number of things, MRP Platoon (bad conduct or attitude) or the Fat Platoon (not physically fit to move on) and so on. Usually you don't get leave you go right to what we termed (Marine 1968) ITR but I think has been relabeled. This is Infantry training. The length of time on this depends on your MOS. If he is infantry he'll spend another couple of months, if he is support he'll get about a month! then he will get leave before reporting to his new duty station.

You can send him things from home, BUT, back when i was in we had to do 20 push ups for every item we received from home. No Poggy bait (candy and things like that).

USMC Boot camp isn't has tough as it used to be, he'll get through it. There are no typical days!

My husband is a sailor, but from information he's told me, Marine boot camp is 13 weeks. When my husband was in boot camp, he could recieve letters and pictures in the mail, but no boxes such as cookies and treats. As far as him taking leave when he gets out of boot camp, they will give him orders as to where he will go. As with my husband, the day after he was through with boot camp, he flew to florida for a-school, which is a special type of schooling that taught him how to do the job he does on the ship that he is stationed on right now. Not to sure of how much of this matches up with a Mariner's life, but hope I could be of help!

Boot camp will take as long as it takes.
There are no restrictions on what you can send your bo.
Expect that you will see a lot less of him, and that you will see a different man when he comes out of boot camp.
He will be a trained killer and his mind will have changed to accommodate this new train of thought.
Look into his eyes and see if the man you knew before, is the same man?
Don't ask to many personal Q's, because what he is doing now requires his fill attention.
After combat, a man is changed forever.
There's a hard road ahead and it takes a 'like mind' to see it.
Boot camp is organised pressure, torture, sleep deprivation, mental and physical fatigue, physical endurance, team work, repetition, obedience to commands without question. This is called rifle drill/parade ground drill etc. where you do what you are told on words of command, without having to think about what you are doing. learning what winning is about. There is so much more, but you'd have to join up to find out.
Best of luck.

Hmmm, well, bootcamp is bootcamp, then he has to go to job training. What is his job?

Bootcamp is 13 weeks, after that, it depends on what his job is.

Mailing him stuff....VERY limited on what you can have during training. Pictures and stuff like that is ok, bigger stuff isn't. DO NOT send him any candy or cookies or food. His DI's will mess with him.

This should help you with specific questions. He most likely will get to go on leave, but I am not sure

boot camp is 13 weeks long. he might get to go on a average of a 10 day leave between his graduation from bootcamp and him entering SOI (school of infantry).

you are allowed to send things at home, but know that his drill instructors will look through all of it! nothing is secret there. he will get them, but he wont have acess to any sort of news. they like to play mind games with them. they will tease the guys that their girls are cheating on them and they are going over ASAP. just send him alot of letters telling him you love him and he wont go over right away.

i belong to an online group of Marine Corps Wives, Girlfriends and Fiances. you should join. you will have all your questions answered.

What Military is he in? The U.S Military? If so what branch? It'll be easier to figure it out. But at most he'll be at bootcamp for about 3 months.
