I have a six month old springer spaniel, i am gone most of the day at work, the dog is a great dog but when im gone its lonely. Do you think it is to late to get another dog, and if I do its a female what gender should i get, what type of dog, and how old. Will my dog accept having another dog? Thanks

Absolutely get your dog a friend! Great idea!
We had our sole male bichon for 6 years and while one of us was with him most of the time (and one of us still is with him most of the time) he is like a new puppy now that we brought home a little girl (also fixed) to be his playmate. They never stop playing, curl up together to sleep, share their food, and race arouond in circles.
My boy used to sit in our front window and look out at the animals all day (squirrels and birds and other mountain) and didn't have much use for the backyard when he was alone. Now the whole place is his playland, and the little girl loves it!
Getting my puppy his own puppy was the best thing we ever did, aside from getting him in the first place.
I am so happy for your dog, you are about to make him ecstatic.

No, It is not too late. Go down to your local animal shelter and pick up a dog that is of the opposite sex from the one you have. I think they will get along better. I would get a dog that is about a year old. "Get a mixed breed that is about the same size as your dog. They will get along just fine. You will save a dogs life getting it at the animal shelter. What a great feeling that will be for both you and the dogs. Dont forget get to get your dog fixed.

Your dog would probably love having a companion while you're away.
Nows the perfect time to get another dog as long as you're ready for 2 fur-balls getting into mischief and you can afford the added vet bills.
Do yourself a favor and take your pup along when you're picking out a companion.Give your dog some space with a couple of different dogs you're interested in.It'll become very apparent which one your dog prefers to play with in a very short time regardless of gender and that's the one you should bring home.
If you give your dog the opportunity to pick it's friend you'll have very few issues with jealousy or guarding. And it's only fair for the dog to have a say in who comes to live in it's house as it'll be the one dealing with the newcomer most of the time and not you.

You should find a dog you really like and introduce them to each other several times so they could get to know each other. I would get a puppy of the same gender as your dog. Just make sure the introducing part is supervised. After all This is your dog's home and she may not want another dog in the house.

What you can do is go to the place you want to get the dog from and let your pup pick out the dog she likes. It happened to me once, I picked out the dog and she didn't like her so then I let her pick out her friend and now they all get along an play.

I think you should get a boy springer spaniel around the same age. If you want puppies that is the best answer, if you dont make sure to have the dog fixed.

no, its not too late. Just get a dog of the opposite sex, (fixed of course) and of a similar size and energy level. Doesn't have to be the same breed.

i would get a female. it doesnt really matter what kind but get one thats not as energetic as the other one. they tend to get along better if they are about the same size and breed.

Make sure the dog is not the same sex as your dog- females and females tend to be er...B*tchy... with eachother. If you do get another dog make sure your dog and the new perspective dog haave plenty of chances to get to know eachother before you make it permanant and bring him/her home so they dont have any issues. good luck!
