All the progress in the last 500 years has been through science and rational philosophy. Christianity has not advanced at all. Hell, it took the Catholics 500 years to admit that Galileo was right (and the fundamentalists still dispute that).

500 years ago the WHOLE WORLD was very brutal and dumb.

In fact if it were not for the Bible we would all be Just as brutal and dumb today if not more so.

About 500 years ago the invention of the printing press made Bibles affordable and available for the common man and it helped us all and the more it is read the better the world will be.

Why were atheists so brutal and dumb in Cambodia during the last century? Or in Russia? Or China? Why didn't logic and reason help them? Same reason as people living 500 years ago. It's because they were human, all too human.

Instead of playing the "Let's see who's a bigger bunch of evil monsters!" game, let's just concern ourselves with the future and try to get along.

This is not something that has gone away in 500 years, but I would hardly call ALL Christians brutal and dumb, just the ones who used the church to further their own personal, political and warlike agendas. Christian monks played a large part in preserving knowledge through the Dark Ages, so I'm not ready to condemn ALL of them...

About 500 years ago the Reformation occurred, so I suppose you are calling Martin Luther brutal and dumb for writing the 95 theses.

You did not live back then - how do you know it didn't? Christians have always been the ones persecuted - not the ones doing the persecuting.
