Im looking to become a bartender in the 757 and I was wondering is it really a profitable side job.

I don't know what/where the 757 is....

Bartenders make a low hourly wage, but its higher than waitresses because they are "responsible" for the atmosphere.

As for tips, it totally depends on the kind of bar, kind of customers, etc. Beer & shot joints aren't all that great; neither are "party bars" except volume might compensate.

Its funny but the bar I work at is usually the last place a novice wants to work at, but the tips are much better. i.e. not the party bars.

You can sometimes make 5 times the tips on a weekend; but not always. More volume can mean worse service, so lower tips, etc.

I personally know law grads that have opted for bartending full time. There are bartenders out there that make 6 figures. But your not going to be making anything like that any time soon.

Bottom line is that bartending runs the gauntlet. A common myth is that hot babes make lots of money bartending and this isn't true, especially in the long run. Again, totally depends on the type of business, even if its in city, suburb, or the boonies. I've often made better money at some small town bars than flashy night clubs. Also, resorts are great place to start.

To really answer your question, I'd have to know the 757 and type of bar to really answer this.

Usually, people that try bartending are surprised by what they can make; but those that have prior expectations are usually dissapointed. I think it has to do with their motivations. Just as I would never give a customer a free drink after he asks me for one, so I'm less inclined to tip a person who expects it.

Bartending isn't about the money, its just the perk. Bartender's that think this way are more inclined to make better money because people respond to their sincerity (and people skills).

Just some food for thought

The 757? Sounds like Virginia. Well, that depends on the bar you work at, the area it's in the type of people that come in, and so on.

My wife used to work at a bar and she did pretty good, and we live in a small town. She would make between 75 and a night, but an easy couple of hundred over a weekend.

As a rule of thumb, the more drunk a person is the more they're likely to tip, so it would be a good investment of your time.

I work at a small sports bar and on a weekend I make anywhere from $100 - $250 a night. During the week I think the girls average about $80 - $140.

it all depends, but i bought my first house from bar tips. i made anywhere from $150 to $250 on weeknights and $250 to $400 on the fri's and sat's, some nights even more- few few and far. ask the bartenders in your area directly. it does get a bit tiring when working two jobs, but....

it depends on what type of bar you work in, if you work night you probably make more. some bartenders make buttloads of money, but work when people want to go out friday and sat night! although if you have to work through college its a good job!
