a guy i used to sleep with said publicly that he was going to get me a valentines gift.. he hasn't been flirting with me as much since he said that! i'm over him but what do you think is up with him?

Sometimes guys feel the pressure of Valentines day too (though hard pressed to admit it) I'd say it all depends on how long it's been since you two were sleeping together, and whether he was a friend in anyway before that.
If it's just been shagging, then he may just want to rekindle something over the holiday (or just get some)
If you were actually friends outside of the physical, it may lead to some place interesting.
Either way I'd let him make the next move. Don't worry to much about it. If you get a gift, be happy, and if not, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
