My Poppy does too. I suppose they've an itchy bum. Got an itch, scratch it!!! I think Poppy just does it 'cos she has cattitude!!! She has been to the vet, he checked her out, said it's just her trying to catch attention. That's her all over, drama Queen.xxx

The general belief that worms cause itchy bottoms is almost entirely wrong, and comes from the condition in children (threadworms) which is very itchy at night.
I would put money on this being an impacted anal gland, and just needs a good squeeze at your Vets. If you make an appointment for an anal gland squeeze, most decent Vets wont charge a consultation fee, but just charge for the anal gland emptying - may be worth asking about this - could save you 25 quid!!

Impacted or blocked anal gland sacs can cause this behavior. The tiny holes on either side of your kitty's anus (left and right of it) are where these glands are located. When they are blocked, the cat experiences some discomfort and attempts to releive the pressure by scooting his butt accross the carpet or floor. Take kitty to the vet if you don't know how to "express" these yourself. Shoudn't cost much at all - probably the cost of a regular vet visit.

As a owner of a 16 year old male cat, I've seen this often over the years. It's always his anal glands are blocked. It's a common thing. Take him to the vet.

definently go to the vet because it could be numerous different things. My cat does this. First time was because her anal glands needed expressed, a few times after it ended up being tape worm, and after all that she still does it sometimes, sometimes for anal glands and sometimes just because she had poo on her fur by her butt because she is too lazy to clean it. It could be many things so talk to your vet to know for sure.

Oh God, that's funny. Seeing cats or dogs "scoot" looks so weird that you just have to laugh. When my cat does this, I noticed that she had a little bit of poop stuck to the fur in the back and she was trying to get it off. If he's been de-wormed, then I guess it's nothing serious to worry about. Try to get a picture of him doing it!

From experience I would have to say his anal glands are full and need emptying. I would suggest to you to take your kitty to the vet and have him look at him. If it is his anal glands, he can show you how to empty them. It won't hurt the cat, it will make him feel better. Hope this helps!

He needs his anal sacs checked once worms and full anal sacs have been ruled out, then he might have a food allergy.
