Contact a local rescue group! There are many dogs that end up in rescue for many reasons.
Before you get any pet do your research and see if that is the right breed for you. Do not buy from a puppymill/pet store.

I have 2 Chihuahuas, and I love them to death. I hated small dogs for a long time, but had never owned one. Well my husband bought me a Chihuahua for a present one year and I fell in love. I have had 3 now, own 2 currently, and will probably never be without one again. They can be yappy and mean, but they are very friendly if you socialize them from an early age. My 2 Chihuahuas live with 4 kids age 9-1years, a Bulldog, a cat, 2 ferrets, 2 Sugar Gliders, and a rat. They get along fine with the kids, but are constantly supervised, especially with the baby. I don't want the kids to accidently hurt the dogs. They play with the Bulldog, Cat, and Ferrets, and they live the small animals alone when we have them out of their cages. You should get one. I think they are the best dogs ever.

I have a four month old chihuahua and I absolutly love her! And this is coming from someone who at one point in time hated chihuahuas because they are mean and don't stop barking, but I guess I got lucky, because mine has never let out a bark, every person she sees she runs too and wags her cute lil tail! if they pick her up, she licks them! She is soo friendly and sweet. The vet even told me she was the nicest chihuahua she had ever seen! I think the reason my Lucy is so sweet is because I have given her lots of love and attention since the day I got her. Don;t get me wrong I am as busy as can be, I work and go to school full time. I leave her home alone all day, but when I get home, she is right there waiting for me! Also Chi's are very smart and easy to train, I had mine trained in about 2 weeks. GOOD CHOICE ! Oh yeah and I payed 200 for her, but she was worth every penny!

get one, get one, get one!!!!!!! they are great little dogs. some are mean, but if you buy from an experienced breeder they can be the sweetest little guys. i have a two year old boy and he is my constant companion. i take him with me everywhere. all he wants to do is cuddle and play and he sleeps with me every night. he is my best friend. i paid $650 for him. do not buy from a pet store or puppy mill. also do not buy from a breeder who claims to have tea cup chihuahuas. there is no such thing. finding the right breeder is the key to owning a healthy well tempered chihuahua. if you do this it will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. when your dog is 5lbs., they are more than just pets. they are your babies. good luck.

I've had chihuahuas all my life. Their really good dogs in my book. As with any dog you have to socialize them with people and other dogs. Mine have never been yappey or aggressive, it's how you raise them. I have a 10lbs one and a 4.5lbs. And everyone loves them. They aren't tolerant of extreme weather. So if its too cold, bring them in and if its too hot bring them in as well. I found my big chihuahua, 7 years ago, and my little one cost me $300, 4 years ago. The smaller one is a pure breed without papers.

Chihuahuas are great little dogs. I have five of them. I paid $300 dollars each, to a breeder, for my male and female, then they had three puppies, we are keeping. Chihuahuas are very loyal, loving, smart, affectionate, protective, great little watch dogs, totally fearless as far as other dogs are concerned,{they think they are great danes}, funny, love to cuddle, fun to put little outfits on, not only because they get cold very easily, but because they look so cute in them. Mine come running when they see me holding a sweater or a tee shirt. They are compact, and you can take them with you, almost anywhere you go. They are very fragile though, and you have to be really careful with them.

I have a male chihuahua and he is about 5 yrs. Loves to sit in your lap, being catered and carried, great with my kids, but gets very territorial when it comes to me. Not sure if it is because he is male or because I am the "master". Playful yet a lover. I paid about 600 but he is not a registered dog. If you know anybody going to Mexico, I heard they are real cheap, but check on getting him over the border!....Good Luck
