I am 18 years old and in college with no student loans. I have had 3 part time jobs within the past year and I was wondering how to file taxes. I am completely new to this and would like some help on how to do it! I do not know anything about deductions but I know that I made under $10K combined in all of my jobs

If you make less than $8,450 ($5,150 standard deduction plus $3,300 personal exemption) you will not owe taxes. If your parents are claiming you on their returns as their dependent then they will get your exemption, at which point the threshold becomes $5,150, the standard deduction.

Regardless, you should file a return to see if you overpaid or underpaid your federal (and state, if applicable) income taxes. If you paid too much tax during the tax year, you will get a refund from the government. If you underpaid, you will need to pay the remaining balance due on your taxes.

Forms for filing and instruction booklets are available at your local library, your local and state government offices, etc. You can also pick up software at a local Wal-Mart, Best Buy, or other store.

Since this is your first time filing taxes, I recommend filing Form 1040-EZ, which is a one-page return that assumes straight wages and interest, no adjustments to income.
