I've got a really bad cold and am trying to shake it. I take the dosage of NyQuil recommended on the bottle (2 TBSP, or 30 mL), and while it slightly allieviates my symptoms, it does NOT knock me out or really make me drowsy at all.

Does anyone have any speculations as to why? I'm a lightweight (about 101 lbs.), I don't drink heavily, I've never even used NyQuil before. Seeing as it's notorious for knocking people out for hours at a time, I'm wondering why I'm not getting the same effect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Its not the NyQuil.... its just how your body reacts to it. Try Tylenol PM. Its so funny... the doctor gave me prescription Ambien to help me sleep.... and i was awake for hours!! The next time i took NyQuil and was OUT big time!!!! I think you just have to find what your body reacts to. Be careful though! :)

There is a reason why the bottle says "may cause drowsiness"
because not all people are the same....unfortunately I can take the recommended dosage all day long and it doesn't make me drowsy...lol - its just your body chemistry and they need to cover their a**

drink more.

it is hard to sleep when youre sick, usually because youre internal temp. has risen enough to make you physically and mentally uncomfortable. when im sick, i find it hard to think because of this. try taking things like melatonin and lorazepram (i think thats the one, im not sure tho). there are many over-the-counter sleep aids, and some great perscription aides (and some great other aides that'll knock you right out) but i think the best is just getting comfortable with a book and a hot water bottle and fresh air. if youre too hot, sleep nekkid or something, i dunno. i have a hard time sleeping to begin with, but thats what usually works for me.

Some people get the reverse effect. Are you sure you didn't buy the daytime stuff by accident?
