Guan YIn is known as a Chinese Goddess of Compassion.

She was a male when she was a human but when she died, she became a female.

I know one story about her.

She was a prince of blah city and she wanted to be a monk. Her father forbid her to become one. They keep argueing and she said that if she can't be one then she'll die. She became a monk and teach other people Buddhist stuff. But every temple she goes her father keep burning it. So she went to the foerest and do things the same as the Buddha. Then she met a buffallo. The buffalo was hungry for days and he(buffalo) want to eat him(the prince). She said that if her meat is going to save his life(buffalo) then he the prince is sacrafice his meat. Buffalo ate him and he(buffalo promise that he will never eat meat again to thank him for what guan yin did.Buddha saw that and made him Guan Yin.

She changed my life and make me want to be a monk.

Quan Yin, the goddess of mercy, yes she does... she's a form of Tara. I used to pray to her, as a Wiccan to teach me better compassion and patience... I later found myself at the virtual "feet" of the Buddha. I'm deeply grateful to her, for I'm learning what I sought and didn't find elsewhere. I see gods and goddesses as beings who are NOT omnipotent but rather similar to humans (like the Buddha teaches) just having better karma than we humans do.

Here's my expanded view of her: She's like Mary, the mother of Jesus, she's Tara, she's Quan Yin, she's whatever other goddess of mercy you see out there... just not omnipotent.
