depending on your audio device ,or your audio may be aprt of your chipset, you first need to check your motherboards name, you will find this by downloading sisoft sandra lite diagnostics from http://www.sisoftware.net/index.html?dir=&location=downandbuy&langx=en&a=,and when installed ,look in the motherboard module and check for the boards name and chipset
once you know this then its just a case of going to the respective website and hopefully they will have a vista driver for your chipset or sound card
however i have been using the vista beta and you should be able to go online for most drivers and vista will search for the driver
the main audio devices used in p.cs are the following and i have supplied links for the respective vista audio driver
1. creative.....http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp?MainCategory=1&nRegionFK=&nCountryFK=&nLanguageFK=&sOSName=Windows+Vista+32-bit®ion=3&Product_Name=Audigy+4&Product_ID=14103&modelnumber=&driverlang=1033&OS=26&drivertype=1&x=27&y=14
2. nvidia nforce...http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_32bit_beta1.html
3.realtek..http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
4. sis.....http://www.sis.com/download/
5. intel.....http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Support_Intel.aspx
you should be able to find your appropriate driver using the links and info supplied but you may be one of the unlucky thousands who have a p.c with hardware that hasent got a vista driver yet, dont worry i have 2 devices that i cant use yet as the manufacturers havent released a driver yet,but a audio driver is probally the worst driver to be without
if you let me know your motherboards make i would find the appropriate driver for you by all means
i hope this helps
good luck

always best to be first, isn't it?

The drivers, if not available on the manufacturers site, are'nt available!

NOTE: so many manufacturers (and consumers) are'nt taking microsoft seriously anymore, as its just an excuse to sell the same product again, at £300!, that fixes failures, that should have been fixed, free.
It seems billionare bill gates, feels he's owed £300 every 5 years, off every computer owner, and people are'nt wearing it anymore.

The pick up, by software and hardware manufacturers, for vista has been under whelming, and not consistent with its launch.
So much stuff will not function, and the manufacturers dont care!

Theryre not towing bills line anymore, or release shedule, so be warned:
It will be six months minimum, before vista is compatible with older systems. (for manufacturer driver updates).

Sorry you've found out the hard way.

Try performing windows updates. Some of the more common audio drivers are provided through windows updates.

If they're not then I'm afraid you're going to have a few problems.

Delete your sound drivers, reboot your computer. Windows should look for drivers for your sound card. If it doesn't go to your control panel in your start button and add new hardware. Chances are sound cards that are two or more years old will not have Vista drivers made by the people that made the sound cards.
