I know I asked this last night, but my link didn't work for some reason, so I'm trying again.

If it was his sister, cousin, whatever, isn't incest a sin? And doesn't this make a little more sense considering the difficulty of converting "heathens"?

I know I'm linking you to something long and drawn out, but please read it before posting an answer.

Adam and Eve lived a very long time. As they were created genetically pure, there was not any risk of birth defects. Yes, Cain likely married his sister, or a close neice that was the daugher of a brother or sister.

Incest did not become sin until the Levitical Law was handed down to Moses.

Genesis 4:17 says, "Cain lay with his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch." Who was his wife? It is implied in the biblical text that Cain married one of his sisters. Several facts lead us to this conclusion.
First, it is clear that Adam and Eve had a number of children. Genesis 5:4 says, "After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters." Since Adam and Eve were the first man and woman, and since God had commanded them (and their descendants) to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:28), it seems reasonable to conclude that Cain married one of his many sisters. It is also possible that he married a niece or even a grandniece.
One must keep in mind that in the early years of the human race there were no genetic defects that had yet developed as a result of the fall of man. By the time of Abraham, God had not yet declared this kind of marriage to be contrary to His will (see Genesis 20:12). Laws governing incest apparently did not become enacted until the time of Moses (Lev 18:7-17; 20:11,12,14,17,20,21). Hence, there was no prohibition regarding marrying a sister (or niece or grandniece) in the days of Cain.

Often, apparent inconsistencies can be resolved if we just look at the context. Consider, for example, the often-raised problem about Cain’s wife. As is well known, Cain killed Abel; but after that, we read that Cain had a wife and children. (Genesis 4:17) If Adam and Eve had only two sons, where did Cain find his wife?

Where did Cain get his wife? Is there a logical Bible answer?

Yes, there is. It is pointed to in the very instructions given to Adam and Eve shortly after their creation, namely: “Be fruitful and become many and fill the earth and subdue it.” Gen. 1:28.

Obedience to this command would require that Adam and Eve have children. Then these children, in turn, would marry and bear children. This process of reproduction by succeeding generations would need to continue in order to fill the earth in harmony with God’s purpose.

The solution lies in the fact that Adam and Eve had more than two children. According to the context, they had a large family. At Genesis 5:3 we read that Adam became father to another son named Seth and then, in the following verse, we read: “He became father to sons and daughters.” (Genesis 5:4) So Cain could have married one of his sisters or even one of his nieces.

At that early stage of human history, when mankind was so close to perfection, such a marriage evidently did not pose the risks for the children of the union that it would today.

It is probable that, while yet alive, Abel had sisters; the record mentions the birth of daughters to his parents, but their names are not recorded. (Ge 5:1-4)

Cain went into banishment in “the land of Fugitiveness to the east of Eden,” taking with him his wife, an anonymous daughter of Adam and Eve. (Ge 4:16, 17) also the much later example of Abraham’s marriage to his half sister Sarah.

hi gimmester, swindled here. no it wasn't incest. heres why. cain , after being kicked out of eden went to a town or land called Nod, Nod was a town where merchants came to sell their stuff. it was there he met a woman named Lilith (misspelled?). In genesis it is stated that God created the (ethos, races, nations, take your pick), on the sixth day. well that " day" it refers to is actually a thousand year period. this is later explained in the new testament. on the seventh "day " another thousand year period. he rested. on the eigth day he created adam and eve. so the sixth day created had two thousand years to multiply and lilith is one of those "other people" that you refer to. yipes!!! i just came back from looking at your article! by your numbers v:27 correct
V:28 correct, that explains your statement about being gods, we are over the animals. pantheon is just another word for god gen2:9 the word rib here replaced the original word "curve" that was used in the original Hebrew manuscripts. That word curve probably refers to the Helix curve of d.n.a. Now as far as who lied. When God said they would die He meant the death of their spiritual body i.e. soul. Satan is SUUPPERR smart and he knew what God meant. This issue is not so much an issue of lieing but an issue of DECIET. By the way the knowledge of "GOOD AND
EVIL" is the knowledge of good sex and bad or unnatural sex. Satan thinks its ok to get it on with anything any where anytime, anyhow. God says have fun with sex and as much as you want BUT do it his way . By His laws. Adam and Eve covered them selves not because they were ashamed of their body , rather they were ashamed of what they did with them. Gen3:13 Eve said satan tempted her . Some bibles say tempted others use the word beguiled. Beguiled is correct because IT is used in the manuscripts. In the Hebrew it mean totally seduced. Not just mentally but physically! Thats right Adam and Eave & satan had a three way going in which Eve got pregnant by both Adam and satan. Natural and unnatural sex used. Adam +Eve=Abel, satan +Eve=Cain. Adam and Eve were the first of the Jewish race. The Jewish race is the race that God chose for Christ to come through. That is why satan tried to pollute the bloodline .
Able was a pedigreed Jew. Cain was a mix or hybred. Gen3 :22 What God is really saying is the wages of sin is death and that Adam and Eve could not save THEMSELVES .Only By Christ dying on the cross could they be spare spiritual death as a result of their sin. When Christ died on that cross God gave him the authority to erase sin and resultant death. I have done a lot of work for you so please suffer me a few. It is not by virtue of not sinning that we go to heaven because we will all sin. When you "reach the other side" you will have to go through a flaming vortex that stand between you and the path to heaven that only the rightous me pass with being incinerated. But if you believe in christ and his forgiveness you are automatically DECREED rightous and may pass. Documentation, in the bible an account of three men thrown into a furnace bythe king but because they believe in Christ they were unharmed when they came out. They did'nt even smell like smoke. This is an example for us. And that is why after every miracle Christ said "your faith has saved you!", or "as you believe so shall it be"! Gen. 3:3&4 God was going to sacrifice his sons blood it is reasonable that God would expect a animal bood sacrifice .Cain probably knew is was supposed to be a blood sacrifice but for some reason still did'nt comply.
Lastly either you are a decendant of the sixth day creation or the eight day creation. Unless of course one may consider the decendants of Cain "seperate".These people are called kinnites, not to be confused with Canaanites from the land of Canaan. And Yes the kinnites story has not been told in the bible, in fact thay were only mentioned lightly once or twice. Peace , a tired swindled.
