Help by all means, it will be more than welcome. Your local hospice or scout group or anything can all do with extra hands.
But please, do it for people, NOT to push YOUR concept of the world down people's throats. Save that for your church.

Maybe you should leave the gospel out of it. You shouldn't want to do good deeds because some book tells you to. Forget your religious agenda for a minute and do something nice for someone with no strings attached. You come in with religion up your sleeve, not only does it scare or p*ss people off, it makes you look like a jerk. You may as well be a used car salesman. You lose peoples' respect with that kind of deceit. If you really believe in God, don't you think he'll find a way to touch those souls which are in need. According to Christians he is "all-powerful". With that in mind do you really think he needs your help. Just be a good person. Hold a door for someone, let somebody in front of you in traffic, give your old coat to a homeless person. Everyone thinks too big. Its the little things that really make a difference. Good luck to you.

There's all sorts of things. Get involved politically. Join the Kiwanis or Lion's Club. Bake cookies and do a secret phantom or valentine or leprecaun thing (that's fun! You give a plate of cookies or goodies and have them send it to two other people, but post the valentine on their door if they've already received one . . . it goes to tons of people, and is exciting and fun to receive and to give!). Have a dinner party and invite people you don't know or want to get to know better or want to help establish a good relationship with. Just smile and ask people questions about themselves (read from their reactions if they want to be left alone or enjoy talking), etc. I hope this helps and are some ideas along what you're looking for. I think the ones where you get to know people personally are the most meaningful and will help increase the feeling with the community at large.
You can also do volunteer work for a soup kitchen, library, school, etc.

True Ministry, like that of Jesus, is not so much about converting people, as it is about being present with those in need and healing the hurting when you can.
I also would add that it's important to fight structural problems, as well as doing things that are tangible and quick.
Some recommendations:
1. Volunteer with Habitat for humanity, the red cross, the american cancer society, your local hospice or nursing home, and HIV/AIDS services.
2. Organize a campaign at your workplace, school, or church and raise money for anything from a Race for the Cure to fighting Genocide in Darfur.
3. Seek out community leaders and ask them what they think the needs of the community are. If they talk about hunger, poverty, and other related issues, listen to them. If they talk about banning Gay marriage, ask someone else's opinion. Regardless of how you feel about that issue, there are much more important things in which Christians can invest their energy

My opinion has always been: If you don't know what God wants you to do, then go wherever God is working a join in. We as Christians often over complicate this issue. You don't need a great plan or program to serve. Do what you can whenever you can. Be an encourager. Be a really good friend. Do what you say you will do. Be kind. Care, and show it. Don't witness just to witness. Learn to love others, and let your service flow from the love of Christ in you. As you atart to serve in any way, constantly listen. As you serve, and grow closer to Christ it will become easier and easier to discern His voice. When you hear Him speak, OBEY.

Meet them where they are...make friends ask if they need help with anything. Start a Bible study, and invite them, if you are able. Be a friend, but never force it down their throats, because Jesus wouldn't do that either. The best witness is living the life! May God bless you in your outreach.

buy alot of hardy soup, then put it in it in containers that will hold it (preferably paper). Then put those in a paper bag with alot of other food. give to that closest homeless shelter. if you want to spread the gospel, also put a pair of rosaries is each bag with a card taht tells you how to say the rosary.

A good place to start would be the bath houses, there will be plenty of men there willing to hear you out. Then I would go down town like a homeless shelter with a couple viles of crack. You'd be suprised how many people will pay attention if you hold a rock over their head. Good Luck!

stick to basics
feed the hungry ,warm the cold ,love the despised,
help when you can
that you do to the least you do FOR the most
visit hospitals ,comfort the child
know to change that you can then trust god,
help our old people ,defend the oppressed
its not about the thinking its about the doing
when we help others to help themselves
to try to be the good ie not to be god but to be gods good.
we do the little stuff ,not for rewards but because we can.
we must live our truth that truth [god] live in us.

Preach the gospel without talking.
Which means go out and do good things but don't shove your preferred faith into any faces.
