I really wish I could help but I have the exact same problem. People often tell us to distract ourselves from these thoughts but it's not that easy. Just like your fears, you can't just hide from them. Music, games, laughter etc. all hinder me from my intellectual progress. The social stigma associated with over-thinking often impairs us. Then we begin to think if we should even think so much to begin with! Lol...well, maybe it's just me. Maybe you're just thinking about a recent issue (breakup with gf). But if you're pondering the nature of existance late into the night there's not much you can do. Either run from it or come up with an answer to your mind's inquiry (which is impossible, because that is why we continuallyt think about it!). As for now though, just try to sit back and enjoy life. THINK of all the beautiful things in this world, the mysteries, the pleasures. Start to mingle with bubbly people and hope it rubs off on you. Peace.

It is seldom that we think too much. The problem is often what we think about. Dr. Don Colbert calls it "stinking thinking"! You just have to stop the "stinking thinking". You do that by intentionally forcing yourself to think about different things instead. Go for walks. Ride a bike. Get busy doing something fun. Think about beautiful things like rivers and valleys, oceans and mountain tops! As far as not sleeping at night, you can take some melatonin which is sold over the counter or go to a doctor and ask for a non addictive sleeping aid until you teach yourself how to fall asleep. Teach yourself that you are only allowed to focus on "your ideas" a limited time frame a day. You can do this. It takes discipline, but you can do it. Perhaps, talk with someone a couple times a week about your ideas to relieve the build up on the ideas.

Try sleeping with a radio on...Perhaps your favorite music (You really can not think too much when your singing!!...lol) or maybe even something soft and soothing like a waterfall or simply white noise you can try to focus on the sound and the floating feeling of peace that comes over you when you hear the soft sounds of rain falling on a roof?.....Maybe even a warm bath and a glass of wine before bed could help?......Maybe place a notebook and pen by your bed so you can write things down as you think of them?.....Good Luck......I have this problem sometimes too when too much is going on in my life and I just try really hard to take some time for myself.....Put together a puzzle, read a book or take a short walk outside...ss

well theres no such thing as suddenly stop thinking even if you were to blank out mentally. but yea it could be tough, I have racing thoughts mostly in the daytime, it used to be at night. What works for me is when you go to bed dont force yourself to fall asleep, dont worry about you not falling asleep, that will make it worse. Then learn to "watch your thoughts". Observe them and let them pass by like clouds and dont get caught up on them. Focus on your body and on your breathing. Count your breaths for a bit. What also really works for me is taking valerian.

Meditation works for many, your thoughts collide and make it difficult to focus, this is your mental makeup and you can harness this great energy by the force of your will and help from the Zen philosophy or straight meditation; but it must be learned and you must be open to it. Believe me, I have seen several people with the same outlook and this has helped them greatly. You should cherish this ability to be so energized, most people do not have your mental capacity, the entire world is open to you, if you can harness your energy positively. Of course, there is another side to your talent, if your thoughts overwhelm you, or become depressive, please seek professional help. Best Wishes!
