That the credit card charges you $XX per year to have the card. Usually billed on the anniversary of when you got the card each year.

An annual fee is what you pay for the privilege of having a credit card, and you get charged whether you use the card or not.

The first two answers are correct. What they left out is, you should be able to get a card with no annual fee.
