I've got some military buttons, I assume from the British army, and I'd like to find out what regiment/unit they came from. They appear to be crossed scimitars, points upright, with a globe/ball on top with what could be flames on top of it. There is a scroll at the base, but I can't make out any letters. The back of the buttons have 'S & W LTD B'HAM' on them. Anyone recognise them?

Sounds like The Queen's Gurkha Engineers. For a picture look at the link. Is it the one on the far right?

Ball with flames is usually an old fashioned Grenade. So without seeing it, I would assume that it is from either a Grenadier unit or a Sapper unit. (Austraillian Engineers use it on thier cap badge.)

The scimitars could be from the Indian Grenadiers. Another possiblilty would be that it is from the Military band as the fifes and some others carried small scimitar- like swords.

I don't know of any S&W (other than Smith and Wesson - which I doubt it is....) B'Ham is probably Birmingham.

Can't tell much without seeing it.

Are you sure they are scimitars and not Gurka knives?
