My BF cleaned out the basement- I was down there for fifteen minutes, mostly with a dust mask, but he sent me up when I started to sneeze.
We live in a town that was built on a swamp, by the way, so we do what we can to dehumidify, etc.
Anyway, I woke up twice this weekend with a faint feeling of stuffiness in my lungs, like constriction that I've had when bronchitis hit- but I haven't at all been sick...
Could mold really do that? Just a little bit? Not even enough to show up on the mask?

Yes, It is probably a mild alergic reaction. There are a few species of so-called "Black Mold", mostly in the genus *Stachybotrys*, that have toxic spores. However if this were the case, your boyfriend would be sneezing too. These molds aren't especially common, and most molds or mildews that appear black are not members of this genus.

More likely you simply have an allergy to something in the basement. A doctor can do an allergen screening to try to narrow down the cause.

By the way, you may be waking up in the night when the heater kicks in and starts kicking up some of the leftover dust.

Yup! It sounds like you have had a moderate to sever allergic reaction to the mold. Hence the pressure on your chest, etc. Try an over the counter anti histamine and you may want to go and see an ENT doc to get some kind of allergy meds that you can take long term, since this is in your home.

My brother is an asthmatic and after ten years his asthma has shown no sign of improving. He has been to several doctors but they didn't help much.

If you want a proven, all-natural way to cure your asthma, without having to pay for useless medications with harmful side-effects, then this is the most important page you'll ever read.

Mold is very dangerous. You can seek out local labs and ask them for a mold kit. After you follow the directions on the kit you take it back to the lab. and they find the results for you. I lived in a house that was 2000 % higher than normal. My doc said that if I wanted to take my landlord to court he would back me up. That's how bad it can be.

True!! Mold can cause more then asthma, it can cause brochitis, pnemonia & all sorts of lung problems. Get yourself a Dehumidifier for your house to get rid of the problem. I am a heating and a/c professional. Also, get a air cleaner for your furnace!!!

Yes. See a doctor, and call a professional to take care of the mold. It may be worse than your boyfriend thinks.

some types of mold can. But you should see a doctor and have a mold inspector come to your house. Most mold is harmless but there are some types of mold that can be harmful and can lead to brain damage.

I think it does. Now, since everything is stirred up down there, it might get into your furnace ducts and be getting blown around in your house. Better get checked out to be safe.
