The Europeans carried medieval swords & shields, and the Japanese had Ninja & Samurai swords, but what kind of warrior weapons did Americans carry? (anything but gun-related, cause guns don't make a person a true warrior)

American warriors (before European emigration) used bows & arrows, spears, clubs, tomahawks & grappling. To the best of my knowledge no martial arts disciplines were developed in the western hemisphere during this period.

In Central & South America they also used blowpipes & poison darts.

Here in the Americas we had a host of native tribal warriors. For example the Apache were fierce warriors and we known to be ablt to have 5 arrows in the air at the same time, fired in succession and the Cherokee were known for their tracking and hunting of enemies. The various tribes used the bow and arrow, the lance (a javelin like spear) hand axes (usually with flint heads until the introduction of metal heads after the Europeans established permanent colonies in the 1600's) and theh carried shields of anumal hide stretched over a frame that could be used to deflect arrows. The also carried and used flint knives. While they did not have anything like a formalized martial arts system, most tribes, and often even individual families within the tirbes, had skills that had been passed down to them from previous generations.

The Native Americans used spears, arrows and tomahawks. They made these themselves from sharpening rocks and tying the heads on with sinnew. For the most part, their weapons weren't so much for fighting as much as they were for hunting. For battle they also fashioned shield made of buffalo skins and many tribes such as the Apaches and Sioux were excellent archers. They could fire as many as five arrows in one minute.

If you mean Americans as in The Settlers well I'm sorry but by the time America was colonized the medieval style of combat had pretty much fallen out of favor with then modern armies and weapons such as sabres, muskets bayonets, and artillery were the order of the day.

Seems they figured it better to pick off your enemies from distances or take them out in one fell swoop with cannons was a better strategy. Of course for close quarters combat, daggers, brass knuckles, blackjacks, and sabres still ruled the day. At least until more effective handguns like the Colt revolver entered the picture.

Native Americans used spears, bows, and knives. The Europeans that took America from the Native Americans used guns. It should also be noted that Native Americans were not considered warriors because they were not warlike people. They lived in harmony with the land until the Europeans came. They tried to repel the invaders with no success. War is the process of acquiring something that someone else has. Native Americans did not know of greed until they were taught.

And I don't think our United States Marines appreciate you saying they are not true warriors.

Okay, take a look at the time frame.1100's-1300's for the Medieval period and 1200's to the 1750's for feudal Japan. The flintlock and following rifles were just extentions of the spear, short bow, long bow. If you are referring to the colonist of the United States then barring weapons that fired projectiles with out the aid of gunpowder, it would have to be pitchforks, axes and scicles. The native americans (North, Central & South) had darts, axes, clubs and spears.

Both Europe and Asia were in the iron age. The Americas had only progressed to the late stone/early bronze age. There were no swords in the America's until Europeans come over because there were no advanced metal workers. Same with most of Africa.

Native americans, Cherokee, Navaho, Apache, etc... carried spears, tomahawks, knives, and bow & arrows . Most of their fighting was weapons based, however there were some unarmed "techniques". The unarmed fighting was mostly wrestling with some striking thrown in .

we have soldiers.

if you don't acknowledge the military as a "true" warrior, then knights were not warriors, and samurai were not warriors and there is historical debate as to whether ninjas actually existed historically but even if they did then they were structured (according to accounts) like the intelligence arm of the military, again making them non-warriors.

you don't know what a true warrior is, a true warrior is someone who uses whatever means possible to better end a fight with less harm to themselves- that is the very essence of martial arts is to not be hurt yourself but hurt your opponent. Guns are the most efficient (individual) way to do that.

Deny technology you become a dinosaur. I don't see any dinosaurs around today do you?

I also don't remember reports of knights/samurai, etc. on the battlefield anywhere in centuries have you?

During that time period not a lot is known about American history. More than likely Central America would have been dominated by the Mayans and South America by the Incans. North America wasn't ever really dominated by one Native American culture. As far as weaponry, you just need to research what was common to those specific tribes.
