I recieved this riddle in an email and I cannot figure it out! I am usually good at these, but I guess I stand corrected...

3 MEN GO INTO A MOTEL. THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK SAID THE ROOM IS $30, SO EACH MAN PAID $10 AND WENT TO THE ROOM. A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK REALIZED THE ROOM WAS ONLY $25, SO HE SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 GUYS' ROOM WITH $5. ON THE WAY THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT $5 EVENLY BETWEEN 3 MEN, SO HE GAVE EACH MAN A $1 AND KEPT THE OTHER $2 FOR HIMSELF.THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID $9 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A TOTAL OF $27, ADD THE $2 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = $29.

Where is the other dollar?

The guys only paid $25 for the room.... $3 went to the 3 guys and $2 went to the bellboy for a total of $30. The trick is that the men did NOT pay $27

Start out with 30$. Give bellboy $5 who gives each one$. 30-1 29 -1 28-1 27. 27 - 2 Bellboy=25! Kind of like counting fingers 10 9 8 7 6, and then 1 2 3 4 5 ( 6+5)= 11

The men only paid $25. Not $27. The bellboy had to have kept $2 for himself, not $1.

Oh no! hang on I've got it.......The 3 guys have actually paid the man at the desk 2 dollars TOO MUCH (the room being only $25 but they have paid $27)....the missing dollar therefore is with the desk man???? .....however, having said that it's still annoying me as he has physically GIVEN the bellboy the $5

Oooooooo why did I have to read this one!! It is SO annoying me!! haha

Am I the only one who knows the answer to this riddle?

Answer:

Each man got one dollar back so it is like they each only paid nine dollars to begin with. Nine X three equals twenty-seven the amount they should have paid. The room is only 25 dollars so they should receive two dollars back and they did, except the bellboy kept the two dollars. It all makes sense, you just have to look at it another way.

They paid 25 all together cos it cost 25, and that is not 9 its 8 and a third and then add 3, the money they got back and then add 2, and it does add up to 30.

They have already paid $25. Then they each get a dollar back that = 28 + 2 to the bell boy that equals 30

THe room is $25. You give each man $1.
25+3=28
The bellboy keeps 2.

28+2= 30

Well. Don't know how to explain but they paid 30 and were supposed to pay 25. So each man is paying 8.33 approximately. So 8.33 X 3 is 25. Each gets 1 back. 25 plus 3 equals 28 plus 2 stolen bucks is 30. Damn that was confusing. In other words, each man paid 9.33 approximately. Well two guys paid 9.33 and one had to pay 9.34! Yeah, thats it!

In reality, each man paid $8.33 for the room (figure one guy paid the extra penny just for rounding sake). That equals $25. Give each guy back $1.00 and now they each paid $9.33 which equals $28.00 plus the $2.00 for the bell boy.

Alternately, each paid $9.33 for the room and gave the bell boy a $0.66 tip.
