i have been getting a sharp pain in my heart for about a month now. i am only 16. i wondered what this was. its really sharp and sometimes i have to stop. its not like i dnt get enough exercise and i am not fat. i am quite slim. its not heart burn or anyhing like that its just a very sharp pain right in my heart. this whole thing sounds so stupid but it really is concerning me a bit. i know, i know, people will say ''go to the doctor instead of asking on here'' but i just want to ask on here before i go to the doctor because i don't want to go to the doctor over just a pain in my heart. are there any doctors/gp's on here that might recognise this problem. thankyou.

It's not an uncommon sensation (I get it) and it is a form of indigestion, or more like trapped wind. Look at your diet and try and identify something you might have started eating within the last month to set it off.
I think that if you did have a problem with your heart, it would show itself in other ways, such as pains down the arm etc etc.
You really do have my sympathy because it is an excruciating pain which lasts several minutes and makes it difficult to breath without pain.

Please try not to worry. At 16 yrs old you are EXTREMELY unlikely to have any ischaemic heart disease. 'Heart ' pain is usually described a crushing or heavy pain, 'like a pressure' or a tight band round the chest. It very rarely stays in the middle of your chest but would radiate to your arms, jaw, teeth or throat and sometimes through to your back. It is often accompanied by nausea, sweating, dizziness or palpitation. Your pain could be anything from indigestion to simple pulled muscles (most likely). See your doc for reassurance and a diagnosis. That's what they get paid over £100,000 a year for!

dude... a pain in the heart means u need to go to a doctor. we both know that...

the good news? its probably stress... i had that... and it kept getting worse cause i thought i had heart disease. once i went to a doctor and he said it was stress... i stopped worrying and I was fine ever since.

... if you have been drinking too much caffeine... this problem is common.

Edit: Well i am not a doctor, but if you have been under stress for a month... i'd guess that's a contributing factor... go to doctor to confirm that, stop drinking caffeine and try not to worry too much... you are young and got a lot of great fun thing ahead of you!

I have been getting something that sounds similar - if it is right in the centre of your rib cage, then daft as it seems it might be your stomach. I am on some anti-acid tablets.
OF COURSE see your GP tomorrow - ring first thing.

Honestly... go to the hospital or your normal doctor... you need to be checked out immediately. Heart pain is not something you put up with...

Honestly, this could be one of many things...what do your parents think? Have you told them? It could be anxiety, it could be muscle bruising inside and the list goes on.

It would be wreckless to guess what it might be on here, so I really do think you need to visit the doc....it'll put your mind at rest.

Best wishes.
