It is generally considered that light and dark can be interchanged. However, you should note the following:
1. Light has vanilla and salt added to the solution
2. Dark has a type of molasses or refiners sugar added, caramel flavor and color, sodium benzoate which is a preservative, and salt.
The dark will add more flavor, but the pie will also be very dark looking and not light in color. Some people, including my self, like a pecan pie that is amber and almost translucent in appearance instead of a dark pie where you cannot really make out the pecans and the texture of the pie.
Hope this helps. Good luck and happy baking.

Karo syrup recipe calls for light - probably just a matter of taste. Can't imagine you could go very wrong either way.

I have found that half of each makes the best pie and gives a nicer texture. YUM.
