He should eat at the table with you and whatever you are eating. If he's part of the family then he should get the same good food. My dog especially loves fried chicken and chocolate cake.

Well lets see, put food in a bowl first of all..... do you mean like how many times, what kind etc?? Well I have a 1yr old lab, she eats 3 times a day about 1 and half to two cups a food each sitting, she is on nutro dog food, which seems to be pretty good. Just feed your dog something that is good for it, you dont want any kind of junk, and the amount deoends on the size and etc.

I have a 3 month old chihuahua puppy. I feed her 3 times a day for no more than 5 minutes at a time. I have had so many dogs in my life...let's say I'm over 45 years old just to make me feel not too young and not too old :) In my opinion they are better, healthier eaters and grow up with good eating habits. Think of it this way...if you have a child who could eat anytime they want would they develop good eating habits by nibbling all day? Or would it be better if the child sat down 3 times a day, naturally feeling hungry, and eat all their vegetables even though most children don't really care for them? To me, pets are like children and none of my 3 grown adult daughters have eating disorders and they are all very healthy and have terrific figures. One of my daughters even played a part in Ms. Congeniality as a beauty contestant. She played Ms. Ohio (she's the one where they are boarding the bus and the guy standing outside says "Hello Ms. Ohio"!) OK - I'm bragging but it's true! :) But back to feeding your dog, I say 3 times a day and 5 minutes at a time. All my pets were healthy and had good eating habits. Ta Da!!

i have a rotty and since ive had him since 5 weeks old, i thought it would be a good idea to get him on a schedule.... so i only feed him 5 meals a day and I give him 15 minutes .... and i only feed him as much as he can eat, like if i give him two cup fulls and in that fifteen minutes he eats it too fast i give him more next time, but say he like doesn't eat it all then i give him alittle less next time...... just keeping a schedule and keeping track of when and what he eats is good and it keeps him very healthy... and also, 2 out of those five meals i give him those wet type of dog food, and mix it with his normal dog food..... the vet says that as long as i keep him on a good schedule he'll be fine......

I keep the food/water dish full and let them eat when they want to.
But, when we have this other dog come over, we pick up the food dish because she(the visitor) does not know when to stop eating and then throws it all up.

I put some food in a bowl, put the bowl on the floor -- and she eats it! (the food, that is, not the bowl.)
