For the last few months I've felt like I am at a war with my own thoughts. It all started when I started living a bad lifestyle and doing things that are not to good for you. I asked God to forgive me but I still feel so bad about the things I have done. I've also started to constantly think I have something wrong with me, like serious fatal diseases. I don't have any of the symptoms to start with, but then it seems like I get the symptoms of whatever I think I have. I'm afraid that God will punish me for what I've done even though I've asked for forgivness and totally changed my life. I just need some advice to help me get over this. It is taking over my life to where I can't even enjoy it anymore. Please help!

1Corinthians 6:9 Don’t you know that evil people will not receive God’s kingdom? Don’t be fooled. Those who commit sexual sins will not receive the kingdom. Neither will those who worship statues of gods or commit adultery. Neither will men who are prostitutes or who commit homosexual acts. 10 Neither will thieves or those who always want more and more. Neither will those who are often drunk or tell lies or cheat. People who live like that will not receive God’s kingdom. 11 Some of you used to do those things. But your sins were washed away. You were made holy. You were made right with God. All of that was done in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Some of you used to do those things…

This is a 2 part street. In other word asking forgiveness from God is all good and such, but it is not really all that important. God forgives you when you change your bad habits; asking him is not really not needed. However I did call this a 2 part street; cause evn though Gods forgiveness is great there is at least 1 more person you need forgiveness from; yourself.

The forgivenesses you need in order of importance are as follows; yourself, people you have wronged, and then Gods. The reason God is last at not first is because once the other 2 are met Gods is automatic.

So to help you out with this I will give you some steps.

1. Make a list of everybody you have wronged.

2. Apologies to everybody that you have ever wronged (some might not forgive you and some will be harder then others; however giving it your best is all that matters).

3. Ask yourself for forgiveness and really mean it. (this is the hardest step and the most important) A couple things that might help this are making a list of what you will do your best to aviod doing (using your past as a reference) and sitting down with others that you have hurt that have forgiven you.

4. Last ask God for forgiveness. God has actually already forgiven you by this time, however it makes you feel better and closes these chapters in your life off.

I can give you only Islamic perspective and Scientific overlook.

1- According to Holy Quran and Islamic teaching ( which contrary to common belief are for the whole humanity ) God ( Allah) is the most merciful. It is true that he has all the power in the universe and when he punishes, his punishment is the toughest. But in his own word in Holy Quran, till the judgement day, he has made Mercy a mandatory choice for him. No matter how much sin we have committed if we ask for forgiveness we should hope that he will forgive us. No matter how big is the sin. If by mistake we do the same sin again and truly appologize then hopefully he will forgive us again, no matter how many times it happens. This is because Satan is here to misguide us and not to let us believe in his Mercy. So believe in his mercy and hopefully he will bless you with his mercy.

Scientifically, I think you are going through extreme guilt/ depression. It it is beyond too months then this is an abnormal behavior. Your normal psycholgical defense mechanisms are not working right and sounds like you may be developing these physical symptoms as a reaction ( normally called Hypochonric). If these feelings are there for more than 3 months or stimulating you to harm yourself or others , you should seek psychiatric help right away. If you do not have a doctor then go to nearby ER and freely let them know about your symptoms and Depression. Make sure you go in daytime, Shrinks usually do not like to come in the middle of night. Peace

I've been there. It's like a dark cloud hovering over you. Let me suggest two important things...

1) Realize that God loves you and that if you are in this battle, it is a good sign that you probably are saved. I would suggest hearing this message.

http://www.sermonaudio.com/sermoninfo.asp?currSection=sermonsspeaker&sermonID=62706235611

2) Start to obey. First, obey in the little things, and then go on to bitter things. This is part of exercising your faith... Examples would be pray for others, find people to help, and most importantly share your faith.

3) One thing I have found is that I was over-zealous in things. I would be judgmental of others, and not even realize it. Sometimes in my zealousness I would go too far, and think of what others were or should be thinking rather than apply things to my own life. If this is true, this may be a time to slow down, pray, read, and try to take some time to seek after God again, to find His will again.

4) Philippians 1:6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Trust in Christ and seek Him. Seek His face, and nothing else. Look to the cross, and His sacrifice, and the love He already showed to save you, and know that you are dearly beloved.

This has happened to me whenever I have strayed away from the Lord and got caught up in the world. It's just like the devil to play on our weaknesses and try to make us believe that we are so bad that God is fed up with us and has thrown us out. But that is not true according to the Word of God. The fact that you are having this battle is an indication that God loves and forgives you, or else Satan wouldn't be trying so hard to make you feel so guilty. He knows that you are forgiven and as long as you have doubts, he will try and convince you that your doubts are genuine proof that God has cast you away.
We can't trust even our own feelings, because our relationship with God isn't based on our feelings but only on the Word of God. We believe in Faith and we walk in Faith, even when we slip and fall. We have faith in His promise that He will never leave us or forsake us, and that Jesus shed His blood for ALL of our sins, past, present and future. There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ. We are in the process of being sanctified each day by His sacrifice and the cleansing of His blood. A good book on this subject is Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer and I have to read it every now and then to get my thoughts back on track whenever I get in your situation. Which can happen to any Christian. You're not alone. Bless you, and just listen to God, not the doubts.

You say that you are having trouble with your thoughts because of the passed sin in your life. You have ask God, for forgiveness but, you are not feeling forgiven. You are concerned about becoming ill and you feel that God will punish you for your past, even though you have now change your life.

Please know that we have all sinned and done really bad things You have and I certainly have too.

God knows this and that is the reason that He sent Jesus to the world to live, suffer, die, and live again. Jesus never committed any sin even though He was tempted in every way.

Jesus came here to suffer the punishment of death and complete separation from God, that you and I deserve.

When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, He changes you. God forgives you because you believe in and follow His Son.

You and I can't be religious or good enough for God's forgiveness. That's why Jesus has done it for us.

When you accept Jesus, Jesus gives you life abundantly, here on this earth. Free from fear, and the promise of eternal life with Him in Heaven.

Please pray and accept Jesus into your life. You will be free. May God bless you as you learn to know, love and, follow His sacrifice, for you, Jesus.

Romans 8:1-4 says;

1 ¶ There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus;
2 for the Spirit’s Law— telling of Life in Christ Jesus—has set me free from the Law that deals only with sin and death.
3 For what was impossible to the Law—powerless as it was because it acted through frail humanity—God effected. Sending His own Son in a body like that of sinful human nature and as a sacrifice for sin, He pronounced sentence upon sin in human nature;
4 in order that in our case the requirements of the Law might be fully met. For our lives are regulated not by our earthly, but by our spiritual natures.

All you need to do is make sure you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

If you've asked for forgiveness, you are forgiven. The one sin you keep making is that your punishing yourself. God knows we are all sinners, He wants us to be aware of the sin in our lives and attempt to do what is right. Make no mistake, YOU ARE FORGIVEN!!!!! Now let go and forgive yourself. When you do, God will be able to use you for His purposes in ways you never dreamed, maybe to help someone who made the mistakes you did.

I really think you should be going to a good bible study- Studying God's word and spending daily time with him in prayer too. The more you do not spend time with God, the more the enemy puts those thoughts into your head...But God is faithful- and He has much to teach you, and complete peace comes with Him...but you must set aside your will and take His. "Draw near to the throne of grace"

Hebrews 4:16
Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
