How far down from a lav faucet can i put a trap ? is 32" too much?

im installing a pedestal sink and i want to run the line down thru the floor and trap it in the ceiling joists of the basement .

That will work. I've done it before. It only matters that you have a trap capable of hold water. Make sure you have a clean out set up also.

It's not so much the inches as the water drop. Too much will carry all the water from the trap and let gas into the house. Most codes allow no more than 18"
