It is all to do with what's 'realistic' and what's 'the best option' and how to stop the 'enemy.'

What about weapons of the spirit? What about Gandhi? What about the hippie era? What about Jesus? And what about idealism?

There would be no point in conquering a country if they only obeyed laws they agreed with, or if trade was cut off, or if the victims made inspirational speeches instead of retaliating. People should stop being weak and realise that there are always other ways of doing things.

Kind actions and words can convert people on the inside, weapons will only ever force them from the outside.

And yes, I do truly believe that. I think perhaps mass slaughter would happen for a while. But I'd far rather be in a nation of people that stands up for what is right with their hearts, not their trigger fingers. And eventually I think that others would realise fighting is futile.

I don't believe peace is a catchphrase, though it mayve been used as one.

I do believe peace has been used to mean lack of war, when actually peace starts inside and is an emotional reality and belief in itself.

Isn't it funny you are talking about peace when most of the conflicts in the world involve Muslims who claim that Islam is peaceful? It's so peaceful that they blow each other up as well as the infidels. Maybe we should believe in something else.

May God Bless you.

If you had a child being attacked in school, would you say, "Let that guy hit you, rape you and rob you as much as he wants. Eventually, he will realize it is futile."

People who will not defend themselves pay a much greater price than having their trade cut off. People like you don't know who and how other people paid for the peace that you now enjoy. All I ask is that you educate yourself the tiniest bit. There was a guy named Giordano Bruno. He wanted to make inspirational speeches but the church nailed his mouth shut before he was burned in the name of Jesus. If Ghandi lived in Stalinist Russia he would have been in a prison cell before you ever heard of him.

Yes. I and many others believe in peace. Getting an entire nation (or enough of it to vote in a proper government) to believe in peace is much more difficult (unfortunately).

I still believe in peace and I still believe in love. I think that if people still had more love for eachother it would lead to peace. People should pay more attention to Ghandi, and Jesus, and Martin Luther King Jr., and pay less attention to people like Osama Bin Laden and Ann Coutler that just spew hate. Peace and love have been forgotten, but they can be revived. Practice bith in your everyday life, and slowly the tide will turn again.

It is a nice thought, but if we try to talk, we will be obliverated by people who HATE us. We could talk until we were blue in the face about peace and love and they will still HATE us. There are only bad and worse options where we are right now. I WISH it were different but that is not reality. Sorry.

How can someone believe in something that they themselves have not perceived, due to whatever causes and conditions in their lives keep them from achieving this in their own minds?

You have to have the right circumstances in life to cultivate a calm, peaceful mind. Then, you have to have the DESIRE to do so.

Gandhi...Jesus...few and far between.

Besides, in each of their eras they too wondered why no one seems to believe in peace.

because 'peace' has come to mean 'lack of war'. And humanity has never known a day when there has been no war. So, by that definition, humanity has lost hope.

No one ever has believed in peace. Peace is part of the global catchphrase like "freedom" or "democracy". Its all a bunch of crap.
