He "may" get 4 years in prison, which means probably no prison time.

Shouldn't he be hanged?

BTW, notice Yahoo only puts a link to his supporters. They don't put a link to the US Army website, or anything like that. Yet they claim to be neutral. Give me a break.

He is a disgrace to the military, but I don't think he deserves to be hanged. 4 years (probably half that, in actuality) is too light.

He should get 20.

This guy is a disgrace, he betrayed his unit, his BROTHERS, because he thought that the war was illegal. The guy was a freakin' Officer in the Army! Obviously he's an idiot. He ended up Diobeying an order, and he caused a Breach of Contract, The panel of Officers on his case for Court Martial i think are going to throw the book his way on all the illegal moves he made that was a violation of The Uniform Code Of Military Justice. Well, thats as far as i am allowed to go on the Subject. I'm not allowed To Say to much because like others on here, i'm a Proud Soldier, and we are not allowed fully to talk about military matters with civilians, sorry, but at least you know alittle bit on where i stand.

He is definitely getting off too easy. His claim to fame was he didn't want to go to war - but he had no problem enlisting , getting a college education paid for by the military and waving good bye to the men of his battalion as they went to Iraq.
How's this sound for lame and ironic --- Because he didn't go - someone else did in his place - but that didn't matter to him .

He is scum --- playing at the heartstrings of all the whining war opponents .

He got what he wanted and is now reaping the rewards. There is no way to take back a college education so after his minimum prison time is served some liberal will hiring him and he will continue on his cowardice way , making big bucks and spitting in the face of the men he was supposed to lead .

I think the sentence fits the offense. Sure, what he did was reprehensible to us military folks, but you have to make the punishment fit the crime. In this case, 4 years is sufficient considering the charges he faces.

And what all of you civilian types - especially you, Crypto Jew Girl - don't understand is that a member of the US military DOES NOT have the right to say, "I don't agree with this order, so I refuse to do it." You VOLUNTARILY give up that right when you either enlist or accept a commission. You take an oath swearing to "protect and defend the Constitution of the United States" and to "obey the orders of the President of the United States and the officers appointed over me." (That's the enlisted version, but the officer's oath is very similar; it's jut not word for word the same.) When the lieutenant decided to disobey his orders to deploy, he both violated the oath he voluntarily gave and committed a crime according to military law. On top of that, he let down the men he was supposed to be leading and keeping alive.

It's not up to him or anybody else in the military to judge whether or not the war in Iraq is "legal" or "illegal." it's up to him and everyone else in the military to OBEY THE ORDERS GIVEN THEM, whether they agree with them or not. And I applaud the military judge for refusing to allow the trial to be used to judge the "legality" of the war - the judge was 100% right on.

I hope the lieutenant gets the maximum sentence, because he truly deserves it. He let his men down, and that's the cardinal offense for a commissioned officer.

Hanged??? No, it was only a missing troop movement, and conduct unbecoming of an Officer. 4 years in the federal pen is the correct verdict( that means 4 years hard labor, no time off for good behavior, or time served) and a dishonorable discharge. It's the only thing they can do!

Yes, he probably should be hanged, or better yet, let him alone with a few of the soldiers he abandoned. This guy was a freakin officer. When I was in the army, officers were the ones leading from the front, even if we didn't always agree with them. I mean, what a traitor. Hell, as I have said many times, I dont agree with the war or bush, but I damn sure would not abandon my fellow soldiers and when you are in the army you suck it up and follow your orders. If he didn't want to follow orders , he should have stayed a civilian. I mean, there is no place for playing politics when you are a soldier.

What he did was desert his post. This should result in his execution if convicted. The military makes it easy. Either take a chance on death facing enemy bullets or certain death facing ours. Which will it be? If the Army allows this guy to get away with it you are going to see a FLOOD of cases similar to this. The military is no place for a social experiment.

If it was an enlisted man , he'd be in jail and the press wouldn't even mention it.
The libs are using the fact he's an officer to try and make points.
