There are some cancers in which there may be a genetic connection. You should talk to your doctor if your family members had Breast, Ovarian, Prostate, Medullary Thyroid, or Colorectal Cancer.

You can read more about the connection between genetics and cancer at the National Cancer Institute:
http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/prevention-genetics-causes/genetics

I do know of one family in which the father was diagnosed with
Medullary Thyroid Cancer. Because they knew it was genetic they tested his three children and found that two of them had the early stages of this cancer. All three are now in treatment for this disease.

The screening just tells you what the chance of you getting cancer will be based on genetics, it may be very possible since it runs in your family but you should try to stay as healthy as possible so if you do get it you can fight it off with a strong immune system.

are you referring to immediate family ? or relatives ?
some forms of cancer are more gentically connected than others. e.g. you can have breast cancer running in families .
one cannot live ones life in fear though. in the long run , that might cause you more damage by making you a neurotic. you must however take common sense precautions such as not smoking, keeping a health diet , and exercise.

not sure what it is. go see your GP. surely knowing is better? best to find out - treatments have advanced so much nowadays and if its caught early then all sorts can be done. go get it done, hun. my mum and aunt both died in their 30s. us cousins have a morbid bet on how long we're all gonna last.. I've just made it into my 30s and my sis is a bit older and scared 'cos she's got kiddies. if u can get it done do so.
good luck. x

It does rather depend on what sort of cancer you are referring to. Breast cancer is one for which they can screen for the gene. Others are not so certain.

I would look into your family tree and see how it may skip a generation because you may not get cancer but if you have children they may get cancer. Look real good at this .

Absolutely, get the screening. This will help tell you and your doctor more precisely what your risks are.

Better to know the risks and address them NOW, then to wait, and worry.....
