a great motivator is a friend. Find someone who would want to lift and go running with you. You could also set out a work out plan. Try to stick with it for a couple of weeks. Once you see the results that you are getting, working out might not be such a hard thing to do. a lot of it is mental and if you can keep a positive attitude it will get easier.
One thing that I do know that is good for gaining muscle and loosing weight, is when you do go in and work out, get all of your lifting exercises done first then go and run on the treadmill.
Another tip is to do an arm work out one day, legs the next, then back, then shoulders. Make sure that you are working out all of your muscles. You could ask a coach for a work out plan. One that is going to work out all of your muscles, he could also show you how to use all of the machines properly so you don't get yourself hurt.
You have already taken the first step. Now you need to put the pieces together so it fits your body and your goals. Good Luck!

well, that depends on why you want to get into better shape. girls? health? music is always a good motivator. listen to mp3 while exercising. get some of your friends to exercise with you. more the merrier. this is also a good motivator if you have someone to exercise with. maybe you should join track & field. that way you MUST run. you don't have a choice.

try walking home, play in the park with your friends (football, basketball, baseball, dodge ball, biking, rollerblading, etc.)

for weight lifting, i don't know any extracurricular activities that are tied to weightlifting. i think you're too young to weight lift anyway. you still need to grow. but try toning your muscles by holding a 2-3 pound exercise bag while you run. also do 40 push ups a day. this will help tone your muscles. but at first do as much as you can to prevent injuries. you should start weigth lifting when you're 17 or 18. that way, your growth development is reached at age 16. if you must lift weights, it should be done with adult supervision to prevent injuries.

for abs, try 60 sit ups a day. again at first, do as much as you can to prevent injuries. and increase the repetition per week, to be on the safe side. do the same with push ups.

exercise 30 minutes a day, 3-5 days a week. don't forget warm up exercise to prevent injuries, such as stretching to condition your body. then do it again to cool down. these are very important so you don't get injured. here's a link to good stretching exercises, http://www.womensheartfoundation.org/content/Exercise/stretching_exercise.asp

here' a link to teen exercises

be careful. don't overdo it.

1--Get a partner--one of your parents, a sibling or cousin, neighbor, or friend. This is one of the best ways to do it, but you have to be prepared for when the other person craps out on you,

This has happened to me repeatedly and is very frustrating when the other person does not follow through. Some people need a partner to exercise with to help them be accountable for showing up and following through on their exercise committment.

2--Also, call your local mall or hospital. A lot of times, they will sponsor a "walk" where people will walk together around the mall and they will have info. telling them how many miles that is based on how many times around they've walked. Usually, these walks will occur in the early morning hours, but not all. The other walkers will definitely be older than you, I'm pretty sure. These hospital and mall walks are normally free.

Also, check out you local community college or parks department catalogues, as they too sometimes sponsor walks in the community for exercise, socializing, and learning--it may be a walk regularly scheduled around the historic part of town, the park or wooded area. Some of these programs are free, sometimes not.

3--There are online communities where people exercise alone, but report back to each other online as to how it's going. People can get support, encouragement, and accountability there. Check out Oprah, com, I'm sure there's a group operating there.

4--Joining a school sports team is a good idea, as is getting a dog or asking your neighbor if you can walk their dog or walk with them and the dog.

Good luck.

What motivates me is to join a class or a team so that it makes working out into a social event.

I think it's so boring to go to the gym just for the sake or working out, it's more fun if you're also learning something such as a sport or martial art. I do Tae Kwon Do, my husband takes boxing classes. Check if your city has recreational leagues for sports like basketball, etc. Most rec centers also have weight rooms too if you want to supplement your sports with lifting.

Make a chart or a calender. Set up different excersises each day. Check it off as you go along. Buy a journal and write in it what you do daily or weekly

Get a friend to join you with similar motivation. Someone who will hold you responsible. Look for someone who is already exercising and ask them for help.

Start slow and easy - walk around the block each day for a week, then make it 2, and so on. As far as weights are concerned, I don't know. I guess you could ask your coach at school.

I wish you well!
