The best thing to do is NOT speak to him. Do not return his calls, emails, etc. If you completely ignore him, he will realize that he doesn't have control of you. He will probably leave you scary messages that will continue to get worse to try to provoke you into contacting him. I suggest not listening to the messages. Change your phone number and block his emails. That is my advice. Good luck.

Why do you not want to involve the police? You need protection and that's what they do--protect people. Get a restraining order and alert the police. Don't mess around or you might wake up dead or beat up some day.
