Are colorblind people allowed to be police officers? If they are not then are there ways around that?

In Ontario (Canada), you are tested for color blindness and depth perception... I have a friend who failed on both of those points, _but_ after going to a 'recommended' optometrist, he got a passing grade & took the results to the Police dept. recruiting and they accepted it.

In SC you must have accurate color vision to even apply to a police officer position. For this reason, it is said that the officer must have the ability to distinguish colors from one another when calling in the description of the criminal. (i.e. If the criminal's shirt is a green shirt and you describe it as being a blue shirt, then the other officers you are calling in the description to will be looking for the criminal wearing a blue shirt.)

No.... police officers can't be colorblind.

I don't know why not. Maybe on some certain things it may be an issue. But not a big deal. Like flying.

It would depend on the jurisdiction you are attempting to get into. Generally vision is important, but being color blind would not disqualify you.

you shouldnt have a problem--talk to the county/city/state in which you would like to apply and see what the say.
