Go sure shot. I have worked in the biz for a few and recall they had the most stringent requirements for cold weather design and verification... and that's correct all in all they are based in Sweden ;-)

the best cold weather car is well maintained , coolant set for -40 , a good battery , dual block heaters and 4 wheel drive with 4 winter tires , avoid ones with a positive lead to the starter that is over 3 feet in length

I would have to suburu. They are the most bought vehicle in lake tahoe and in the rocky mountains. Maybes thats because they come with all wheel drive and they are not trucks but that would be a good car for you.
