I have a 10 year old blue heeler mix breed that started drooling small puddles in his sleep about 2 weeks ago. It has gradually been getting worse. He has been drinking water and eating normally, but I am still concerned. I don't know if this has anything to do with it but I believe he is starting to go blind because his eyes are cloudy also. I have made an appointment with the vet, but his appointment is not until tomorrow afternoon. Any ideas why would be very helpful. Thanks!

Well, the vet may be able to pin point the problem, but my first suspicion would be his dental health.

Glad you have made the vet appointment. Cloudy eyes are a concern, and I would ask him about the drool. But to me, I think the drooling is an age thing.

Try a stud service...I drool a bit too when its been too long. Just kidding. I have several older dogs that have similiar problems and it seems like the really wierd things start happening when dogs cross that 10 years threshold. Have the vet check him out, but it may be that this is just one of those wierd things that will take some adjustment... Hang in there!

Your dog might be dreaming. He also might be getting old. Or he might have a sickness nothing really serious just a congestion problem. The vet can help if they find out whats wrong before something serious happens.

the cloudy eyes could be guacoma or cataracts which would impair his vision a lot and the drooling might just be that he's hungry and getting bored of his food or that he's just getting old

don't you drool in your sleep? i will stand to be corrected on this, but it doesn't sound as if anything's wrong. it sounds like he's in such a deep sleep that he doesn't know he needs to swallow. his spit runs down & out of his mouth. if it got to the back of his throat, his reflex reaction would be to swallow, but since he isn't drowning, he sleeps on blissfully unaware. try sleeping face down on your belly & see if your pillow is dry in the morn.
