Hmmm... This is a very good question. Ok, here goes. "Mainstream" religions pray, basically they say, "Hey God, I want such and such, Thanks, Amen." People who practice magick say, "Hey God and/or Goddess, I would like such and such, and I'm doing this to put some of my own energy into it so that I'm not just asking and not giving, if you find it acceptable for this to happen, I'd really appreciate it."

So yes, I personally believe in Divinity and magick, not that I'm a practicioner, but I believe it works in the same way as prayer.

And just an aside, but the way I see it, all the revelations and prophesy in the bible, and they -still- think it's from the Devil. It's all in how it's used and where it comes from. You don't pray for bad things, do you? The vast majority of practicing Wiccans or any other group for that matter don't do negative spells either. It's almost like some of the mainstreamers -WANT- to give Satan the power of Creation. There are certain gifts that people are given (and I've met people with these gifts) saying that it's evil or wrong is just silly. The Devil (not that I believe in him) cannot create these abilities, they can be turned to evil uses, yes, but anything can be turned to evil uses, look at money.

In some religions, yes, belief in God and belief in magic co-exist.

I can only speak for me own religion, Wicca, but as I was taught, the theory is that the universe IS the body of God/dess -- every object in it is permeated with Divine life-force, and everything is interconnected in a vast web of energy. When I work magic, I am engaging in an act that is both prayer and self-determination, taking hold of that Divine life-force and using it to touch and affect other parts of the universe. To a Wiccan, magic is a process that brings us into closer touch with the Divine.

My $0.02, anyway.

The bible is pretty clear about not following the practices of diviners, necromancers, and other magicians. It is quite apparent that demons have powers that we cannot comprehend. Don't play around with them.

Leviticus 19:26b
Do not practice divination or sorcery.

Leviticus 19:31
Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them.

Deuteronomy 18:9-13
Detestable Practices
9 When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. 10 Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in [a] the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. 13 You must be blameless before the LORD your God.

I believe in God and Jesus Christ...and I believe in magick. In fact, I believe that magick is a gift that God has given to mankind. Most people opt not to learn to use it, but some people do. Many who choose not to learn about it will label it as evil because it is something they can not simply understand. They may as well choose not to use their minds anymore either...or wait, seems that happens a lot. Nevermind.

Also, Wiccans tend to believe in a God and Goddess, so to answer your question from the non-Christian viewpoint, yes...they believe in both magick and a God.

While I believe strongly in G-d, I do not believe in magic. I know that other people practice magic & that is has legitimate potential; but I have chosen to not practice it.

Some of them do. In Kaballah (Jewish mysticism) magic wasn't necessarily evil. It could go either way, depending on the practitioner. Anything that can be used for good, can also be used for evil, you know?
