Sometimes my cat has his tongue hang out of his mouth and then its like he realizes and put it back in his mouth. Is this normal. Like a dog would hang his tongue out of his mouth, but not a ?pant?

There are three main reasons a cat will do this if there is not a medical problem.
1. Sometimes cats will actually taste the air. This gives them a better knowledge of what is around them.
2. Cat's pant just like dogs do, but it is more serious if you find your cat panting because they are very sensitive to heat. If you ever find a cat panting, get them to a cool environment(not too cold because they will go into shock) and give them cool water. Don't let them lap it up too fast or else, like humans, they will get sick. It is VERY important that your cat isn't too hot or too cold. They will easily have a heat stroke in temperatures they are not use to.
3. If your cat is missing teeth, sometimes the tongue will slip in the gap giving the appearance of them sticking their tongue out.

If your cat starts acting weird(even the smallest thing) or starts drooling/secreting eyes/ anything of the sort get him to the vet immediately as this can be signs of illness.

*please note that finding a cat that is obviously sick is very hard to find. most cats do not show any symptoms or very few even if they are ill*

Cat Tongue Hanging Out

My long hair cat does this during the summer. The cat may be thirsty. Even though it is not the same way that dogs panting tongues move with their breathing. You can lead a cat to water but you can't make it drink.

I've seen my cat make a weird face after he smells something. It must smell pretty bad because he himself can make a stink.

Some cats drool. Just like people, animals all have very different personalities . If you are worried about your cat's health , bring him/her to the vet.

They're so cute when they do that! But actually the vet told me it means the cat is dehydrated. Make sure he has plenty of water available.

One of my cats does this, too. He's just a goofball, nothing to worry about.
