I know my gf went overboard for me on Valentine's Day. I have a huge problem. I'm broke. My mom recently passed away and she left me with tons of debt. I have a choice: I can either pay my 85 dollar power bill (which is already way past due), or buy my gf a present worth that much. Should I just get her something? Maybe, I can show her that I'm giving up electricity for one week just to impress her lol! Hey, it will make the whole "candlelit romance thing" a lot easier. We won't have a choice! I don't know what the hell to get her though, also. I don't want to get just flowers. She loves theater, silver jewelry, Hawaii, and movies. She is 33 years old, and I am 24. We've been together for almost one yr.Can I get some advice? I'm already taking her out to dinner that night. Oh man, the little cash register is going off in my head. My situation reminds me of a scene on the movie Half Baked where Dave Chappelle has a little tally going on of how much money he has to spend on his date HELP

your gf should understand your situation! just tell her you are sorry you can't afford any presents, then after dinner take her home, give her a bath, and let it go from there! being romantic is better than anygift!

If she's your girlfriend, she'll appreciate that you are going through tough times and won't expect a huge gift. Maybe she "went overboard" for you precisely BECAUSE she knows you're strapped for cash, and wanted this V-day to be HER gift to YOU.
It's not about the money, it's about the effort. Why not take her out to dinner, and then go home to watch a romantic movie (possibly set in Hawaii, or about the theater, or whatever) by candlelight?
Just be honest with her, let her know that if you had the means, you would buy her the moon and the stars, all the wonderful things she deserves, but that circumstances have left you with little to offer besides your feelings for her. She'll be very touched.

I think you should pay your electric bill. I mean candles will be romantic and all but you kind of have to draw the line. Make something. This is just as sweet as flowers, but it doesn't cost anything and its much sweeter. Maybe you could make her, her favorite sweet treat, or a nice personal card. Its not really the money put in it its the thought. (yeah a bit cliche, but you get my point)

I say pay your bills since they are already pass due. If your honest with her and let her know the situation then I would hope she would understand. I would much rather be with someone responsible then someone who let's there bills go to the way side just for one commercially induce day. You have plenty of time to get her gifts and thing of that nature once you get situated.

i think you should pay for the debts first or else if you don't you'll get into more trouble. and i'm sure your girlfriend will understand. just give her a tour or a little picnic with all the natural beauty sorroundings and tell her that how much you love her. let her know love is not just spending on luxuries but to know how much you love and appreciate her. i really hope it works out with you.

Pay your bills. Make her dinner at your place and use the money you saved by staying in to get her a small gift. If she knows about your situation she should appreciate it.

if she's any woman at all, she'll understand your financial situation. don't go out to dinner, but instead create a hawaiian paradise at your home and make food along that theme. you don't ahve to spend anything on a gift if you use your imagination. make a coupon book for her including coupons for free back massage or any other service you can offer her. then write her a love letter on a valentine. she'll be yours forever.

with my girlfriends on nites like valentines day i always take them somewhere romantic where we can cuddl/hold echother/look at the stars/ make-out/hook up/ etc. and theres nothing beter than that...just being with her and showing your love should be enough. explain you situation and no dout she'll understand. dont wory about getting her anytthing, just show that you love her and take her somewhere where you can share a moment...it works dude trust me (ive done this with 21 girls and they all loved it (im not lying))
