bio-fuel is an alternative to petol or deisel, but made from plants growing today, rather than 1m years ago; ie bio-fuels are like a current account & fossil fuel like a deposit account - see Last days of Ancient sunlight.

The problem is that the current account is insufficent to meet the current lifestyles of 6bn humans, even if we were to give up eating, clotin, housing etc that also have to come from the same fields. Already grain prices in Mexico, as used in the staple totilla, have risen sufficient to affect the poorest, because of convertion of grain to ethanol.

Current best car - tesla, built by Lotus Norfolk UK, 0-60 4 secs. www.teslamotors.com (but not featured on any UK national media)
The best car is therefore not internal combustion engine (ICE), thousands are killed each year by the emmissions (source UK cheif scientific advisor, 2005ish).
but electric, only a few mooving parts, no warm up, max torque from 0rpm, therefore much simpler more efficent. no energy use when stationary, energy recovery when slowing down. Quieter, smoother, just much more enjoyable driving experience. Tesla 250 miles per charge, others offer 10 minute recharge time and 20 year battery life using latest nano-lithium technology.
also free UK road tax, free parking in cities like Westminster, £0 congestion charge and of course no petrol tax. The electric can be produced cleanly & efficently & refuel convinently from home or office whitout having to tanker it around the world.

Bio-diesel can be made from oil chip oil and can run in any pre- 2003 diesel engine.
The oil is rather sticky if used unrefined and will need a pre-heater near the engine. A small ordinary diesel tank can be used to preheat the engine. You could however mix about 1 part chip oil to 3 parts diesel and not have too much difficulty starting except in very cold weather. Your exhaust will smell like a "chippy".
You can refine the oil by reacting with methanol and sodium hydroxide, washing the products and the resulting oil can be used as a straight diesel replacement. (It will no longer be sticky) BUT you will need to pay fuel revenue of about 27p per litre.
The cost of everything in manufacture and tax will be MUCH less than the cost of diesel at the pump (about 60 - 70p per litre max)

"Both biodiesel and ethanol are clean, grow-your-own fuels that can be made on-site in small villages from renewable, locally available resources, for the most part using simple equipment that a village blacksmith can make and maintain."

Biofuels are NOT made from animal wastes. They are made from things like corn, and recycled oils from food fryers, etc.
