show your beagle in some AKC shows,,, there your dog will be judged by an expert in beagles,,,, and your dog will be deemed fit for breeding or not.... if you think your dog is of breeding quality,, you should have no problem finishing its championship,,,, then,, you will have to have your beagles health checks.. etc.. then you will have to start interviewing prospective puppy owners,, then you must draw up a health guarantee... guaranteeing the pups health to be free of genetic defects for the life of the pup.... you will have to take all pups for shots and worming... etc. etc. etc..... hope you have a lot of time and money.. and I certainly hope you will stand by your pups health.... afterall ,, you brought them into this world they will now be your responsibility..... Just get your dog spayed.. and go buy a puppy if you want one.. from a reputable breeder .

Yeah some people can be rude, but most of them have seen or dealt with irresponsible breeders in the past and dont want to have unwanted dogs in shelters. we have too many of them now. like BVC_asst said they are probably just saying that if you breed her you need to make sure you have homes for her puppies. Yeah you may want her to have them but are you going to keep all of her puppies too. I think that is what they are worried about. But i know that they can be very rude when saying that. Just if you are going to breed her make sure the male is smaller than her. That reduces the risk of having complications during the pregnancy. But there are still risks in all pregnancies so make sure you study up and know what to look for if there are problems.
I would personally spay her if she were my dog, because it reduces the risk of mammary cancer and the "unwanted" litters, but she is your dog. If you breed her do it responsibly and talk with your vet. They can give you good tips on what to do and what to look for if any problems come up. good luck and dont let stupid people get you down.

It is great that you want your dog to have puppies. However, if you are not very knowledgable about the breed and how to breed for what characteristics you want, and if you cannot guarentee that each of those puppies will find a good home, then it is irresponsible to breed a dog. Find a good beagle breeder in your area (not a backyard breeder doing it for money, but a show breeder, with many years of experience) and talk to that person. Talk to your vet as well.

Please read the article at the link below and then think about where anyone is going to get a dog if NO one ever has any puppies? Are there really so many show breeders in the world that everyone who wanted a pet could get a dog from a show breeder? Certainly not the way show breeders have been voluntarily cutting back on having any puppies themselves.

Many people are going to have bad things to say when some one asks about breeding.
Have you been to your local shelter lately? Do you realize how many pets need a loving home? Do you also know that over 100,000 dogs are put down each year! Just because there are not enough homes for every pet in need.
You should really consider the homeless pet population before you go adding more dogs to this world.

There is a whole lot more to having a litter then simply producing a litter....any dog considered for breeding NEEDS to have health testing done(OFA/PennHip on hips,CERF/PRA on eyes, thyroid, etc)these are VERY important. Your dog also needs to meet breed standard this isn't just a "show" dog thing..good conformation is important for all dogs.. the better the conformation the less likely a dog is to have serious injury to joints, bones, etc.temperament is a must for all dogs, pedigree is also important ...it needs to be carefully considered for health, longevity, etc.. you aren't just breeding your dog you are in fact breeding every dog in the pedigree...what is in that pedigree will effect your puppies. Also breeding your dog puts her at risk...are you prepared for emergency c-sections, mastitis, pyometria, stillborn pups, low milk/no milk production, feeding weak pups every 2 hours around the clock for at least 2 weeks and more likely 3 ..these are just a few of the things that can happen....These aren't horror stories or scare tactics..these are very real.....I deal with them all the time.
Breeding is a BIG responsability it isn't just producing puppies.

I think what people are trying to say that if your dog has puppies, and you find homes for them, that's great. But the 5 puppies you feel you had to have your dog have means that there's 5 dogs in shelters that aren't going to get homes and that will be put to sleep. I'm thinking that's the point people are trying to make.
Of course, getting her spayed is a lot healthier for her in the long run.

First off, don't ask for other peoples answers if you are too immature to handle what they might say. Second, stop being so SELFISH. go to a shelter, see how many dogs are dying everyday because of people like you . Just because you don't like what people are saying doesnt mean its not true. Stop being ignorant and learn to LISTEN, people know what they are talking about. Spay your dog, dont aspire to be yet another trashy back yard breeder.

i just hope you understand that there are a lot of risks involved with dog pregnancy. your dog could die. hope you're willing to take that risk just because YOU want her to be pregnant so bad. your selfishness will take away homes from other dogs in shelters. THAT is why people are rude. most of the people on here love dogs, and don't take too kindly to selfish irresponsible owners like you who are the reason that there are so many puppies being killed every day.

Ahg! don't pay them any attention. I had one small litter of pure bred chihuahuas last year, (who both of them were bought by the same lady) and I had a few radicals even call me a puppy mill!!!!! They assume the worst is what it is. People can be very quick to judge and sometimes you just have to take a bit of the bad with the good. If you want to go through with it i'd suggest that you first go see your vet to make sure she is up on all of her shots and dewormed too. then find a person that is well knowledged about Begals and breeding, and go from there. I have a policy that I give out with my puppies. " If there is a problem and you do not want the dog anymore please bring him/her back to me) That way there is no "unwanted" babies from you anyway.
Keep your chin up dear....
