It is something that you can never regain back again, once it's lost. That alone makes it important.

The seriousness of sex also adds to its importance. There are a lot of emotional things involved around sex, as well as physical things such as diseases. And heck, you can get babies from it as well.

If losing something could result in live humans, how long do you think you should keep onto it? Until you can deal with having those babies, right?

That's why virginity is important. And in this world, it's special because not a lot of people have it. [laughs]

I'm not saying people should have sex any earlier than they feel ready, but the concept of virginity as 'precious' is partly true and partly a lie.

It could be seen as a taboo to prevent unwanted children out of marriage that can't be proven who the father is and/or supported financially because the mother/parents are too young or poor...

and it can be about preventing the spread of disease, etc.

There are dozens of excellent reasons to preserve virginity, but as Parrolles of All's Well That Ends Well (Shakespeare) says:

"It is not politic in the commonwealth of nature to preserve virginity; loss of virginity is rational increase, and there was never virgin got 'til virginity was first lost"

There's nothing terrible about losing it as long as you are safe, and lose it on your own terms. Those who trhow it away I feel sorry for, but I also feel sorry for those that hoard it like it will increase in value. Have sex and be safe, but for the love of God wait until you want it for real, and don't do anything just for the sake of doing it.

I would say that ur virginity is probaly one of the most important things you can have taken away from you in your life. The trouble with losing your virginity is that you never regain it once lost thats why it is often sensible to wait until you have met the right person because the last thing you want is to of lost it to some moron that you will remember for the rest of you life

Its important to respect yorself. I am guessing you are young and perhaps a virgin? There is no need to rush into having sex with the first person to ask you/put pressure on you. especially With sexually transmitted disease and teenage pregnancy on the rise every year. Once you are in a commited nad loving relationship there is plenty of time to have lots and lots of great sex. Trust me...its much much better with the right person.

It's a matter of personal preference. I know that I personally should have waited for my husband. Because I still to this very day (9 years later) cannot forget about the first person I ever had sex with. I don't think it's fair to my husband who I love dearly. He deserves my whole heart and small part of me still loves my ex, only because he was my first. I know for me not waiting was a mistake. I totally regret losing my virginity before I got married/met my husband.

Virginity gives a person in a relationship to know that it is something that they can control. Its something that you want to give to someone. For some people their virginity is like a promise. To give it away before marriage is just like braking the promise.

In days past, A virgin was held in high regard, because it proved she had no others before her Husband. Some women met their end, when they failed their test.
Today guys don't care about loose women, let alone the diseases they can carry now.
I'm glad I don't have to deal with it,happily married and female.

It's not to me. I value far more realistic things, like good manners, affection, confidence, good humour and a happy spirit are far more desirable compare to the fact that you've had sex or not.

It's like "One careful female owner" on a car, so what!!?? I'm more interested in the mileage, service history and rust!

But that's just my opinion, some people hold it above all things...those nutty Catholics!!

Its not that virginity in itself is important, but its that a girl understands her self worth before allowing any boy she 'loves' to convince her to have sex.

Because you can only lose it once, once that time has been it can never be brought back to do again, that's why it's important to get it right first time.
