at our commissary, the baggers get paid by tips. i don't know if they are all like that, but if it is on your base...what do you normally tip them??

just curious! thanks!

yeah, i usually tip about 2-3 bucks.
o.k. that sounds about right.
just wondering.

ya know...if you think about it..they probably make pretty good money. it MIGHT take 10 minutes for me to check out and get my stuff to the car. so, if i give them 3 buck and they get 6 of me in an hour, then they're making $18/hour! now, that's an averag estimate.

i bet those baggers do alright!

That's a great question! We usually tip $2-3 if it's a single cart to the parking lot and $4 if we have two of them.

Thanks for asking the question.

Good question; depending on the location of the commissary where it is located will depend on wheather that bagger makes some good money or not.
Take for an example the Pyeonteck South Korea Commissary; it is an adverage Commissary; however i venture to say that at least 100-250 do their food shoping there (there are at least 6-7 baggers there at one time) if everyone were to be given 2-3 dollars the amount would be at least 35.00 to $45.00 Dollars per shift. That is an adverage estimation i am sure their are anywhere between 250-500 persons at any given day that enter that particular Commissary in one day. Take a large size Commisary located in Camp Conier; i would estimate that at any one given time that Comissary services between 600-1500 persons per day with at least 20 baggers at one time. You do that math on that one; baggers can make some good money.

I usually give $2. If I go through the express lane, I just dump some change in the can they have (because they don't actually take it to the car and it's usually only a couple of items). If I have a lot of stuff I may give a little more, $3-4.

I think they are all paid in tips only - and I agree, I bet they really can make a lot of money at a busy commissary.

$2 for average of $150 bill, plus $1 noted below.

but will put my "pocket change" (or a buck) in the little bucket as
they bag, as I always request that all cold goes in paper sacks
and then into my cars ice chest.

I also put all cold stuff and produce last at checkout as to insure they keep it together, Christmas season I'll give a Fiver or Ten if I know the person.

I asked them if they thought $1 was fair from the younger wives
and they said that was all they expected but when they see one in the 0-6 spaces they expect a "field grade" tip, I concur.

When I used to shop on base, I would stock up for a month at a time so I had lots of bags! I usually gave the baggers about $5.

I normally tip between one dollar and three, depending on how much I'm purchasing. If I'm buying more than three hundred dollars worth (which happens VERY rarely), I tip four to five dollars. It also depends on how friendly and helpful the bagger is. If I wind up doing most of the work, I tip them less.

If it's just a normal shopping trip (one cart full) I tip them $2, if I'm doing some major shopping (two carts) and I tip $4 - $5, depending on how fast, efficient, and yes - courteous - they were to me!

yep they are like that at all of them I believe.
It depends on how much I am spending and how good/bad they are. Typically about 2 dollars, more if they take my groceries out and/or the weather is bad.
