Try a lot of watery foods like soups. Buy theraflu and Gatorade they always work. Rub your neck with some ointment they smell bad but they help

Love the tequila answer. Never tried it though. But maybe I will one day, sounds like a great way to heal a sore throat or forget you have one.

When I have a sore throat, I always start with the basics: gargle about 5 times per day (one capful, do not dilute) with Listerine.

The more your throat hurts, the more the Listerine will sting, but you should start to feel better soon (generally after the 5th one).

I try to avoid medication unless my sore throat is overwhelmingly painful. And I don't like to recommend medication, I don't know you or what you may have a reaction to.
But...
Tylenol may offer relief while you wait for the Listerine to kick in. Or between one round of Listerine and the next.

Usually by the next day, (after 5 Listerine gargles) you will notice an improvement.

And invest in lemons & orange juice. The citric acid (vitamin C) in these will also sting, but will assist in relieving the pain & turning things around. Have warm (the hotter the better, take care that you don't burn your mouth or throat!) lemonade or tea with lemon.

The earlier you go to work on a cold or sore throat (I mean prevention) the better. This also applies if your throat is only a 'little' sore. Don't wait to feel bad to get started.

The person whose reply is above mine is also correct. A sore throat can be an indication of a medical issue that needs attention. Especially if accompanied by a cough with phlegm of any color.

Even so, I have tried this, and it worked for me.

Hope it helps! If not, see a doctor. Any condition that lasts for more than a few days is a reason to call your M.D.

NOTE: I have also heard that eating onions & garlic work on colds, but I haven't heard anything about either helping a sore throat.

A sore throat can last several days, but with out a full examination it's hard to Dx your problem. You could have anything from tonsillitis to a strep throat. OTC meds will not help the problem. What you need is a specific antibiotic which will target the problem. See your Dr. He or she can look at your throat and see just exactly what is going on in there and prescribe meds that will fix it. Amoxicillin is one medication that will clear the problem up,, but then if you have tonsillitis, an operation to remove them is the Tx of choice.
Good Luck

Sore throat is usually due to a viral infection. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

You need to see a doctor!! Probably he might give you antibiotic because your throat is so sore and fever is the sign of infection. DO NOT DELAY TO SEE YOUR DOCTOR!! DO NOT SELF MEDICATE. BACTERIAL INFECTION REQUIRE ANTIBIOTIC TO PREVENT FURTHUR COMPLICATION. One of many natural home remedies for a sore throat involves gargling with a mixture of 1 teaspoon of APPLE CIDER VINEGAR to half cup of water. Gargle every hour. Buy BRAGG's APPLE CIDER VINEGAR BRAND.This is good because it is undiluted and raw apple pectin. DO NOT USE ANY OTHER BRANDS OF VINEGAR. DON'T SWALLOW THE GARGLED MIXTURE,because Apple cider acts like a sponge drawing out throat and mouth germs and toxins!!! I still feel you should see a doctor especially you are going to lose your voice!!!!

Has it gotten any better since you started taking Dayquil? If it hasn't then it's probably strep. Are you febrile? That's another sign of strep. See your doctor as soon as you can.
